No—Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) early access was not open to everyone at launch. It began as a limited beta in June 2021, with access initially granted through Google Play’s testing program; the game later became broadly available as a public release, so “early access” no longer describes the way most players install it.
What BGMI Early Access Meant
BGMI is Krafton’s India-specific version of PUBG Mobile. After PUBG Mobile was unavailable in India, Krafton announced BGMI as a separate game for the Indian market. Before its general release, the company used an early-access, or beta-testing, phase to let a limited group try the game.
At the time, players could register for the beta through the BGMI listing on Google Play. Access was limited by the testing program’s availability and capacity; registering or finding a download link did not guarantee that a person would be admitted. Some players who got in could use an in-game option to share an invitation link with others, but that did not make access universally open.
The beta opened on June 17, 2021. Krafton subsequently expanded availability and released BGMI publicly on July 2, 2021. Those dates matter when reading old guides: instructions saying to join the early-access waitlist or request a beta invitation refer to the launch period, not a permanent requirement for playing BGMI.
How Availability Changed
Early access and a public release are different stages. A beta is a pre-release test with restricted participation, which can help a developer collect feedback and identify problems. A public release is intended for the wider eligible audience, subject to the game’s current availability, device requirements and platform rules.
In 2023, BGMI was temporarily unavailable after the Indian government directed app stores to restrict it. The game returned to app stores in May 2023 under a three-month trial approval, with Krafton later announcing that it would continue to be available. This later interruption was separate from the 2021 early-access beta. It is one reason search results and old posts may give conflicting answers about whether BGMI can be downloaded.
Availability can change over time and may differ between platforms. For the current status, check the official BGMI website or the game’s listing in Google Play or Apple’s App Store in India. A listing that is unavailable to a particular account or device does not automatically mean the game has reopened an early-access program.
How to Get BGMI Now
If you want to install the game, use the official store listing for your device rather than an old beta invitation page. The exact screens can vary by device and store, but the general process is:
- Open Google Play on an Android device or the App Store on an iPhone or iPad.
- Search for Battlegrounds Mobile India and check that the listing is the official game, not a similarly named app.
- Review the listing’s availability and device compatibility, then select the install or download option if it is offered.
- Launch the game and follow its current on-screen instructions. It may need to download additional game files after installation.
If the official listing does not appear or says the app is unavailable, check that the store account and device region are set appropriately for India and that the device meets the listing’s requirements. Also check for store or operating-system updates and try again later if the store is experiencing a temporary problem. Do not assume a third-party download is a legitimate workaround.
Why Old Early-Access Links May Not Work
Google Play beta enrollment is tied to a developer’s active testing program. When a test ends, its enrollment page may stop accepting participants, and an invitation link from a 2021 post may have expired or point to a closed program. A page that once offered a beta download is not proof that the same program is running today.
Be cautious with sites, videos or messages promising guaranteed early access, special codes or a modified installer. Unofficial files can be outdated, altered or unsafe, and a download page may ask for unnecessary information. Never share a password or one-time sign-in code to obtain a game invitation. The most reliable confirmation is the official store listing and information from the developer’s official channels.
There is also a difference between an official beta and an unofficial APK. A beta is distributed through a developer-controlled testing channel; an APK downloaded from an unrelated site is simply a file supplied by that site. Calling it “early access” does not establish that Krafton authorized it.
Who Could Join the 2021 Beta?
The early-access test was limited, but it was not necessarily limited to a small set of named professional players. Ordinary users could try to join through the Play Store testing process while enrollment was open. The practical constraint was that participation depended on the test being available and places being open, rather than on every interested player automatically receiving access.
As a result, answers such as “anyone could join” can be misleading. Anyone who met the relevant platform and eligibility requirements might have been able to request access during an open enrollment window, but the beta was not an unrestricted public download at the outset. “Open to everyone” is more accurate for the later public release, not the first early-access stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is BGMI early access open to everyone now?
Early access was a limited beta in 2021, not a permanent access route. BGMI later had a public release. Check the official store listing for current availability rather than relying on old beta instructions.
When did BGMI early access start?
The early-access beta began on June 17, 2021. Krafton released the game publicly on July 2, 2021.
Did everyone who registered get into the BGMI beta?
No. Registration was not a guarantee of admission. Access depended on the testing program being open and having capacity.
Can I still use an old BGMI beta invite link?
Usually, a link from the 2021 test will no longer enroll you in that closed beta. Use the current official game listing to see whether BGMI is available for your device.
Is a BGMI APK from a third-party website official early access?
Not merely because the site labels it that way. Use official distribution channels and avoid sharing account credentials or verification codes with download sites.
Why can’t I find BGMI in my app store?
Availability may depend on the store, account region, device compatibility and current app status. Check the official listing and developer announcements; a missing listing does not by itself mean a new beta is underway.
