This calculator works out CPM, the cost per thousand impressions, from what a campaign cost and how many impressions it delivered. You also get the cost of a single impression and the impressions bought per unit of money.
Formula
CPM = cost ÷ impressions × 1000. Cost per impression = cost ÷ impressions. To plan a budget the other way round, cost = CPM × impressions ÷ 1000.
- cost: amount spent, in any currency
- imp: impressions served
Worked Example
250 spent for 100,000 impressions.
- 250 ÷ 100,000 = 0.0025 per impression
- CPM = 0.0025 × 1000 = 2.50
- 100,000 ÷ 250 = 400.0 impressions per unit
Limits and common mistakes
- CPM measures exposure, not results; compare cost per click or per sale for outcomes.
- “Mille” is Latin for thousand, so CPM is always per 1,000.
- Use the impressions actually served, not the number booked.
