The Infinity Castle arc is the final story segment of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, covering the direct assault on Muzan Kibutsuji’s fortress and the simultaneous battles against the Upper Ranks. As of the current anime, the arc has been adapted into the Infinity Castle movie trilogy’s first film, which covers the Hashira’s entry into the castle and the start of the final battle; the full story is already complete in the original manga. Below is a detailed breakdown of everything that happens in the arc, from the Nakime’s trap to the final sunrise.

Formula

This calculator works out your average pace and speed while moving through the Infinity Castle, using the simple formulas:

Pace = Time ÷ Distance (min/km)
Speed = Distance ÷ (Time ÷ 60) (km/h)

Variables:
• Time (t) – total minutes spent inside the castle
• Distance (d) – total kilometers traveled (or estimated)

Worked Example

Using the default values: t = 120 minutes, d = 5 km.

Pace = 120 ÷ 5 = 24 min/km
Speed = 5 ÷ (120 ÷ 60) = 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 km/h

So you’d be moving at 24 minutes per kilometer, or 2.5 km/h – a slow crawl, which is realistic for navigating Nakime’s shifting rooms.

How the Infinity Castle Arc Begins

The arc opens immediately after the Swordsmith Village arc. The Upper Ranks Four and Five (Hantengu and Gyokko) are dead, and the Demon Slayer Corps is preparing for a final confrontation. Muzan, enraged by the loss of so many Upper Ranks, decides to lure the entire Corps into his fortress. He uses the biwa demon Nakime to create a massive, ever-shifting labyrinth beneath the Ubuyashiki estate. When the Hashira and Tanjiro arrive to protect Kagaya Ubuyashiki, they find the mansion empty – a trap. Nakime’s castle swallows them all, separating each fighter into different rooms and corridors.

The Hashira’s Assault on the Upper Ranks

Inside the castle, the demon slayers are scattered. The story then splits into several simultaneous battles:

  • Gyomei Himejima, Sanemi Shinazugawa, Muichiro Tokito, and Genya – they encounter Upper Rank One, Kokushibo, the strongest demon after Muzan. The fight is brutal; Muichiro unlocks the Transparent World and the Selfless State, but is killed. Genya also dies. Gyomei and Sanemi eventually behead Kokushibo, but not before he mortally wounds them.
  • Obanai Iguro, Mitsuri Kanroji, and the Serpent and Love Hashira – they face Upper Rank Four, Hantengu’s clone (actually the original Hantengu, who had been hiding in the castle). They defeat him with the help of Tanjiro’s Sun Breathing and Nezuko’s sunlight resistance.
  • Shinobu Kocho and Kanao Tsuyuri – they fight Upper Rank Two, Doma. Shinobu sacrifices herself by letting Doma absorb her, but she had ingested a massive dose of wisteria poison. Doma dissolves from the inside, and Kanao finishes him.
  • Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Tengen Uzui’s wives – they battle Upper Rank Six, Daki and Gyutaro again (a reincarnation). They behead both, and the siblings finally find peace.

The Final Battle Against Muzan

While the Hashira fight the Upper Ranks, Tanjiro and the remaining slayers – including Giyu Tomioka and the injured Obanai – confront Muzan himself. Muzan is in his final form, having evolved to resist sunlight. The battle is a war of attrition: the Demon Slayer Corps uses poison developed by Shinobu to slow Muzan down, and they keep him in the castle until dawn. The fight lasts for hours, with Muzan constantly regenerating and the slayers losing limbs and lives. The key moment comes when Tamayo, a demon who had been researching a cure, injects Muzan with a drug that reverts his cells to a human state, making him vulnerable.

Tanjiro’s Transformation and the Final Sunrise

As dawn approaches, Muzan attempts a last desperate move: he transfers his remaining consciousness into Tanjiro, turning him into the new Demon King. Tanjiro begins to transform, but his friends – especially Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko – refuse to give up. Nezuko, who has been cured of her demonic nature by Tamayo’s medicine, runs to Tanjiro and reminds him of his humanity. Tanjiro fights the possession and, with the help of Giyu and the others, regains control. The sun rises, and Muzan, still inside Tanjiro, is burned to ash. The Demon King is finally dead.

Aftermath and the End of the Demon Slayer Corps

The surviving Hashira – Giyu, Sanemi, and Obanai (who dies of his wounds) – are the only ones left. The Demon Slayer Corps is disbanded, and the surviving members return to civilian life. Tanjiro loses his right arm and eye but survives. Nezuko becomes fully human again. The epilogue shows the descendants of the main characters in the modern era, living peaceful lives, with the descendants of the Hashira and Tanjiro’s friends meeting at a school. The curse of the demons is gone, and the world is free.

Anime Adaptation Status

The Infinity Castle arc is being adapted as a movie trilogy. The first film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle, was released in 2025 and covers the initial entry into the castle, the Nakime trap, and the start of the Upper Rank battles. The second and third films are scheduled to complete the story. If you want to see the full arc without waiting, the manga (chapters 140–205) is the complete source.

Common Misconceptions

One common mistake is thinking the Infinity Castle arc is the same as the Entertainment District arc (which features Daki and Gyutaro). The Entertainment District is an earlier arc; the Infinity Castle is the final one. Another misconception is that Muzan is killed by the Hashira directly – actually, it’s the combination of Tamayo’s poison, the sun, and Tanjiro’s resistance that ends him. Also, note that the castle itself is not a physical place; it’s a dimension created by Nakime’s biwa, so distances are meaningless – which is why the calculator above is just for fun, not for actual navigation.
