In the Dragon Ball universe, Zeno, the Omni-King, is the absolute top of the power hierarchy, followed by the Grand Priest, then the angels, then the Gods of Destruction, and finally the strongest mortals like Goku and Jiren. This ranking is based on official statements, manga and anime portrayals, and the series’ own established hierarchy, not on fan calculations. This article breaks down each tier, explains how the power structure works, and answers common questions about who could beat whom.

Formula

The calculator above is a simple illustrative tool to visualize the relative power gap between a mortal and a God of Destruction. The formula is:

Ratio (%) = (Mortal Power Level / God of Destruction Power Level) × 100

Where:

  • Mortal Power Level – a number from 1 to 100 representing a fighter’s strength (e.g., 50 for a strong mortal).
  • God of Destruction Power Level – a number from 1 to 100 representing a God of Destruction’s strength (e.g., 80 for a typical GoD).
  • Ratio – the percentage of the GoD’s power that the mortal possesses. A value above 100% would mean the mortal exceeds the GoD.

This is not an official Dragon Ball formula; it is a simple comparison tool to help fans conceptualize the enormous gap described in the series.

Worked Example

Using the default values from the calculator:

  1. Mortal Power Level = 50
  2. God of Destruction Power Level = 80
  3. Ratio = (50 / 80) × 100 = 62.5%

So a mortal with a power level of 50 is at 62.5% of a God of Destruction’s power. In the actual series, even the strongest mortals are shown to be far below a God of Destruction in a direct fight, with only rare exceptions like Jiren and Ultra Instinct Goku pushing into that realm.

The Absolute Top: Zeno and the Grand Priest

Zeno, also known as the Omni-King, rules over all 12 universes. He has the power to erase entire universes with a thought, and he is not a fighter in the traditional sense – he simply is the highest authority. No one in the series has ever challenged him, and even the angels and Gods of Destruction show him absolute respect and fear. The Grand Priest, Zeno’s attendant and father of the angels, is implied to be the second strongest being, though his exact power is never shown. He is faster than even the Gods of Destruction and serves as Zeno’s bodyguard and messenger.

The Angels: Whis and His Siblings

Each universe has an angel, like Whis in Universe 7. Angels are the attendants and martial arts teachers to their respective Gods of Destruction. They are vastly stronger than the Gods of Destruction – Whis can easily defeat Beerus, and he does so casually in training. Angels also possess abilities like rewind time (up to a few minutes) and can heal injuries. They are bound by a rule that they cannot fight unless it is to defend themselves or their universe, but in a straight confrontation, any angel would defeat their GoD. The angels are all siblings, and their father is the Grand Priest.

Gods of Destruction: Beerus and the Others

Each of the 12 universes has a God of Destruction, such as Beerus in Universe 7. They are responsible for maintaining balance by destroying planets, races, or even entire galaxies when necessary. In terms of raw power, they are far above the strongest mortal fighters in their universes. Beerus, for example, was able to defeat Goku with a single finger in their first encounter. The Gods of Destruction can use Hakai, a technique that erases a target from existence. While they are not as strong as angels or Zeno, they are the top fighting force in their respective universes, with the exception of the angels.

The Strongest Mortals: Goku, Vegeta, Jiren, and Beyond

Mortals are the bottom tier in this hierarchy, but some have reached incredible heights. In Universe 7, Goku and Vegeta have attained forms like Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego, which allow them to fight on par with Gods of Destruction – at least for a short time. Jiren from Universe 11 is another mortal who is stated to be stronger than his own God of Destruction, Belmod. However, even these fighters are not truly equal to a God of Destruction in a prolonged battle. The Tournament of Power showed that Goku’s Ultra Instinct could push Beerus to admit he might need to go all out, but Beerus still maintained the edge. Mortals like Frieza, Broly, and Majin Buu are powerful but still a clear step below the gods.

How the Hierarchy Is Confirmed

The power ranking is supported by several key moments in the series:

  • Whis easily defeating Beerus in a sparring match (Dragon Ball Super, Episode 12).
  • Zeno erasing an entire universe with a wave of his hand (Dragon Ball Super, episodes 9-12).
  • Beerus defeating Goku in their first fight with a single finger (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods).
  • The Grand Priest stopping a fight between Goku and Jiren with a single finger (Dragon Ball Super, Tournament of Power).
  • The official Dragon Ball Super character power scaling charts from V-Jump and other promotional materials, which place Zeno at the top, followed by the Grand Priest, then angels, then Gods of Destruction.

Common Misconceptions

One common misconception is that Goku can beat Beerus after learning Ultra Instinct. While Ultra Instinct allows Goku to fight Beerus at a high level, Beerus has been training for millions of years and is still shown to be superior. Another misconception is that all Gods of Destruction are equal in power. The series implies that some, like Beerus, are stronger than others, but no official rankings exist. Finally, some fans believe that the angels are invincible, but they are not – they are just far above everyone else. The only being that can truly erase an angel is Zeno, and even that is not explicitly shown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Goku beat Zeno?

No. Zeno is not a fighter, but his power is absolute. He can erase Goku and the entire universe with a thought, and Goku has never shown any resistance to that type of power. Even in the manga, Goku acknowledges that Zeno is untouchable.

Is Whis stronger than Beerus?

Yes. Whis is Beerus’s martial arts teacher and can defeat him easily. In the anime, Whis beats Beerus with a single blow when Beerus gets angry. Whis also has time-manipulation abilities that Beerus cannot counter.

Who is the strongest mortal in Dragon Ball Super?

As of the end of the Tournament of Power, Jiren is considered the strongest mortal, as he was able to overpower Goku’s Ultra Instinct Sign and only lost due to a team effort. However, Goku’s mastered Ultra Instinct and Vegeta’s Ultra Ego are close contenders, and Broly’s potential may surpass them all.

Can a God of Destruction be killed?

Yes, but only by another being of similar or greater power. In the manga, there are examples of Gods of Destruction being killed by other gods or by powerful mortals, but it is extremely rare. The angels can also be killed, but they are so powerful that it is almost impossible.

Why is Zeno not in the power ranking?

Zeno is at the top, but he is not a fighter. He is a ruler with absolute authority and power, but he does not engage in combat. His power is more like a universal admin command rather than a fighting strength.

What is the power gap between a mortal and a God of Destruction?

The gap is enormous. A typical mortal, even one as strong as Goku in his base form, is nowhere near a God of Destruction. Even with Super Saiyan Blue, Goku was easily defeated by Beerus. Only with Ultra Instinct did Goku approach Beerus’s level, but he still lost. The gap is often described as a chasm that only a few mortals can even glimpse across.
