Elden Ring’s multiplayer lets you summon other players for co-op, but also opens your world to invasions by hostile players. You use a Furlcalling Finger Remedy to see summon signs, a Tarnished’s Furled Finger to place your own sign, and a Bloody Finger to invade. The rules change depending on whether you’re playing solo, with a password, or using the game’s new summoning pool system.

Formula

This calculator works out your average pace and speed for a run or ride. Pace is the time it takes to cover one kilometer (or mile), and speed is the distance covered per hour. The formulas are:

  • Pace = Finish time ÷ Distance (in min/km)
  • Speed = Distance ÷ (Finish time ÷ 60) (in km/h)

Where finish time is in minutes, distance is in kilometers, and the 60 converts minutes to hours.

Worked Example

Using the default values: you finish a 10 km run in 50 minutes.

  1. Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
  2. Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h

So your average pace is 5 minutes per kilometer, and your average speed is 12 kilometers per hour.

How to Read the Results

A lower pace (min/km) means you’re faster – you’re covering each kilometer in less time. A higher speed (km/h) means you’re faster overall. For runners, pace is the common metric; for cyclists, speed is more typical. If you run on a treadmill that shows speed, you can convert to pace by dividing 60 by the speed (e.g., 12 km/h → 60 ÷ 12 = 5 min/km).

Common Mistakes

  • Mixing minutes and hours: Always enter your finish time in minutes. If you ran 1 hour 30 minutes, enter 90, not 1.30.
  • Using miles instead of kilometers: This calculator uses kilometers. If your distance is in miles, multiply by 1.60934 to convert to km first.
  • Rounding too early: Keep at least two decimals in intermediate steps to avoid a slightly off final pace.

When to Use This Calculator

Use it after a run, ride, or walk to see your average effort. It’s also handy for planning: if you want to run a 10 km race in under 50 minutes, you need a pace of 5:00 min/km or faster. You can adjust the distance and time to see what pace you’d need for a target finish time.

Limitations

This gives an average over the whole distance. It doesn’t account for hills, stops, or changes in speed. If you run intervals, your average pace won’t reflect the effort of each segment. Also, the calculator assumes you’re moving the entire time – if you stop for water, your elapsed time includes that, making your average pace slower than your moving pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good running pace for a beginner?
A comfortable jogging pace for a beginner is often around 6:30 to 8:00 min/km (roughly 7.5 to 9.5 km/h). That’s a conversational effort. If you’re just starting, focus on time on your feet rather than a specific pace.

How do I convert min/km to min/mile?
Multiply the pace in min/km by 1.60934. For example, 5:00 min/km × 1.60934 = 8:03 per mile. To convert min/mile to min/km, divide by 1.60934.

Is it better to track pace or speed?
Runners generally use pace (min/km) because it’s easier to compare effort over a set distance. Cyclists and swimmers often use speed (km/h) because they cover longer distances and speed is more intuitive. Both are equivalent – just different ways of expressing the same ratio.

Why does my GPS watch show a different pace?
GPS watches often show “current pace” that updates every few seconds, which can fluctuate on hills or turns. Your average pace over the whole run is what this calculator gives. Some watches also use “moving time” (excluding stops) which will be faster than your overall average.

Can I use this for walking?
Yes. Walking pace is typically 10–15 min/km (4–6 km/h). Enter your total walking time and distance, and the calculator will give your average. It works for any distance-based activity.

What if I only know my speed in mph?
Convert mph to km/h by multiplying by 1.60934 (e.g., 10 mph = 16.09 km/h). Then you can use the speed output to find your pace, or convert the distance to km and use the calculator directly.
