To get coffee beans in Enshrouded, you must find and harvest wild coffee plants, which grow exclusively in the Kindlewastes Desert region. The beans drop from the plants themselves, and you can also buy them from the Nomad NPC after you’ve progressed far enough. This guide covers exactly where to look, how to farm them efficiently, and what you can craft with them.

Formula

The calculator estimates how many coffee beans you’ll collect based on your harvesting time and the number of plants you gather. The formula is:

Coffee beans = (Plants harvested) × (Time in minutes) × 2

This assumes each plant yields an average of 2 beans per harvest cycle, which matches the typical drop rate from wild coffee shrubs in the Kindlewastes. The variables are:

  • Plants harvested – the number of coffee plants you actually collect from (not the total in the area)
  • Time (minutes) – how long you spend harvesting, including travel between plants
  • Coffee beans – the total beans you get, assuming a 2-bean average per plant

The second output, Minutes per bean, is just the time divided by the total beans, giving you a quick efficiency metric.

Worked Example

Using the default values from the calculator: you harvest for 10 minutes and collect from 20 plants. Plug those into the formula:

  1. Total beans = 20 plants × 10 minutes × 2 = 400 beans
  2. Minutes per bean = 10 / (20 × 2) = 10 / 40 = 0.25 minutes per bean (or 15 seconds per bean)

So with 20 plants in 10 minutes, you’d walk away with 400 coffee beans. The calculator rounds the second output to 2 decimal places, so it shows 0.25.

Where Coffee Beans Actually Grow

Coffee plants in Enshrouded are a desert crop. They appear only in the Kindlewastes, the arid biome in the far east of the map. You’ll recognize them as low, bushy shrubs with small red berries (the coffee cherries). They’re not everywhere in the desert – they cluster near water sources, like the oases and along the edges of dried riverbeds. A reliable spot is the area around the Nomad’s camp in the southern part of the Kindlewastes. You’ll also find them scattered near the Pillars of Creation and the Sun Temple ruins.

Unlike some crops, coffee plants do not regrow after you harvest them in the same play session. They respawn after a certain in-game time (roughly a full day/night cycle), so if you clear an area, you’ll need to wait or move to another patch. This makes the Kindlewastes the only place to farm them, so plan your trips accordingly.

How to Harvest Efficiently

Harvesting coffee is straightforward – walk up to a plant and press the interact key (default E on PC). But to make the most of your time, follow these tips:

  • Use a pickaxe or any tool – coffee plants break with any tool, but a pickaxe is fastest.
  • Wear gear that increases harvesting speed (like the Farmer’s outfit) if you have it.
  • Bring a glider to quickly move between clusters – the Kindlewastes is vast and walking is slow.
  • Mark your map with custom pins for each coffee patch you find, so you can return after respawn.
  • If you’re farming for a large quantity, consider building a small base near the Nomad’s camp with a fast-travel altar.

Also note that coffee plants can be planted on your farm once you unlock the seed. You get coffee seeds by using a Seedbed with coffee beans – 1 bean produces 1 seed. Then you can grow them at your base, but they still require the same desert-like conditions (sand soil and warm climate), so you’ll need a greenhouse or a spot in the Kindlewastes.

What to Craft with Coffee Beans

Coffee beans aren’t just a collectible – they’re used in several useful recipes. The most important is Brewed Coffee, a drink that gives you a stamina regeneration buff. To make it, you need:

  • 1 Coffee Bean
  • 1 Clean Water (boiled water)
  • 1 Sugar (from sugar cane)

Combine these at a Cooking Station to get Brewed Coffee. It restores a good amount of stamina and gives a temporary buff to stamina recovery, which is invaluable for exploring the desert or fighting tough enemies.

You can also use coffee beans to make Spiced Coffee (adds a spice like cinnamon) for a slightly different buff, and they’re an ingredient in some high-tier dishes like Desert Stew (if you have the recipe). Additionally, coffee beans are a decent source of fiber when processed, and they can be sold to merchants for a small amount of gold.

Buying Coffee Beans from the Nomad

If you don’t want to trek through the desert, you can buy coffee beans from the Nomad NPC. The Nomad is a vendor you can rescue from a tower in the Kindlewastes – specifically, the Nomad’s Tower located in the central-eastern part of the region. After you free him, he sets up a shop at your base (or you can build a vendor stall). He sells coffee beans in stacks of 10 for a modest amount of gold, and his stock refreshes every in-game day.

This is the easiest way to get a steady supply without farming, but it costs gold. If you’re low on funds, farming is free. The Nomad also sells coffee seeds, which is handy for starting your own plantation.

Common Problems and Misconceptions

Many players assume coffee beans are a rare drop from enemies or found in chests – that’s not true. They only come from plants or the Nomad. Another common mistake is looking for coffee in the early game areas like Springlands or Revelwood – you’ll never find them there. You need to reach the Kindlewastes, which requires progressing through the main story to unlock the Nomad’s Highlands and then the desert.

Another issue: if you plant coffee seeds on regular soil, they won’t grow. Coffee requires sand as the soil type. You can craft sand blocks from sandstone, or find sandy areas in the desert. Also, coffee plants need a warm temperature – if you plant them in a cold biome, they’ll grow slowly or not at all. Use a torch or a heat source nearby if you’re trying to grow them in a cooler area.

Finally, don’t confuse coffee beans with cocoa beans – cocoa is a separate crop found in the same desert but on different plants. Coffee plants have small red berries; cocoa pods are larger and brown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you grow coffee beans in your base?

Yes, but only if you have coffee seeds and the right conditions. Use a Seedbed to turn beans into seeds, then plant them in a farm plot filled with sand. Keep the area warm (above 20°C) and ensure they get water. They take about 10 in-game minutes to grow, and you can harvest 2 beans per plant.

How many coffee beans do you get per plant?

Typically, each wild coffee plant gives you 2 coffee beans when harvested. This can vary slightly, but 2 is the standard drop. If you’re using a tool with a harvesting bonus, you might get a few extra, but it’s rare.

Where is the Kindlewastes on the map?

The Kindlewastes is the large desert region in the far east of the Enshrouded map. It’s beyond the Nomad Highlands and is accessible after you complete the main quest that opens the eastern path. Look for the sandy terrain and the Sun Temple landmark.

Does the Nomad sell coffee beans unlimited?

The Nomad’s stock refreshes every in-game day (about 20 minutes of real time). He sells a limited quantity each day – typically 10-20 beans – but you can buy them again after the refresh. If you need more, you’ll have to farm or wait.

What’s the best way to get coffee beans fast?

The fastest method is to buy from the Nomad and simultaneously farm wild plants. Set up a small base near a known coffee patch, harvest all plants, then fast-travel to the Nomad to buy his stock, and repeat. This yields a few hundred beans per in-game day.
