Enshrouded Glider Guide: Get & Upgrade

Card No. 06·48902 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

To get the glider in Enshrouded, you must first craft a Glider at the Workbench after unlocking it via the Blacksmith, which requires reaching the Blacksmith’s Ancient Spire and completing his questline. Upgrades, such as the Advanced Glider and the Superior Glider, are unlocked by finding specific crafting recipes in the world and require higher-tier materials and the Loom for fabric.

Prerequisites: Unlocking the Blacksmith

Before you can even think about soaring through Embervale, you need to unlock the Blacksmith. This NPC is found in the Ancient Spire in the Springlands, the starting region. To free him, you must defeat the boss inside the Vault of the Cinderwood, which is located to the northeast of the starting area. Once freed, the Blacksmith returns to your base and offers you his questline. Completing his initial quests, which involve gathering specific resources like Shroud Wood and Metal Scraps, will eventually unlock the recipe for the Glider at your Workbench.

Crafting the Basic Glider

Once the Blacksmith has given you the Glider recipe, you can craft it at a Workbench. The basic Glider requires the following materials:

  • 8x Shroud Wood
  • 5x String
  • 3x Animal Fur

Shroud Wood is obtained by chopping the twisted, dark trees found in the Shroud, the purple mist that covers parts of the map. String is crafted from Plant Fibre, and Animal Fur is dropped by various animals like wolves and boars. Once crafted, equip the Glider in your off-hand slot (or as a tool) and jump from a height, then hold the jump button to deploy it.

Upgrade 1: The Advanced Glider

The Advanced Glider is a significant upgrade, offering better glide speed and control. To unlock its recipe, you need to find the Advanced Glider Recipe in the world. This recipe is typically found in chests within the Revelwood region, particularly in the Ancient Spire area or the nearby settlements. Once you have the recipe, you’ll need to craft it at the Workbench with:

  • 10x Shroud Wood
  • 6x String
  • 4x Animal Fur
  • 2x Linen

Linen is crafted from Flax, which you can grow on a Farm or find wild in the Revelwood. You’ll need a Loom to craft Linen, which is unlocked by completing the Hunter’s questline.

Upgrade 2: The Superior Glider

The Superior Glider is the best glider currently in the game (as of version 1.0). It provides the fastest glide speed and the best control. The recipe for the Superior Glider is found in the Kindlewastes region, often in the more dangerous areas like the Sun Temple or the Nomad Highlands. To craft it, you will need:

  • 12x Shroud Wood
  • 8x String
  • 6x Animal Fur
  • 4x Linen
  • 2x Silk

Silk is a rare material obtained from spiders in the Kindlewastes, or from destroying spider nests. You’ll also need a Loom to weave it. The Superior Glider is a significant investment but is essential for traversing the larger, more vertical maps of the later game.

How to Use the Glider Effectively

Using the glider is simple: jump from a height and hold the jump button (Spacebar by default on PC) to deploy it. While gliding, you can steer with the WASD keys, and you’ll slowly descend. To gain altitude, you need to catch updrafts of hot air, which are often found near certain environmental features like lava pools or specific wind currents. You can also use the glider to cross large gaps, but be careful of your stamina – gliding consumes stamina, and if you run out, you’ll fall to your death.

Common Problems and Misconceptions

One common issue players face is not being able to craft the Glider even after unlocking the Blacksmith. This is because you need to complete the Blacksmith’s questline, not just unlock him. Another misconception is that you can glide indefinitely – you cannot, as stamina is a limiting factor. Also, some players think that the glider can be used as a shield or weapon, but it is purely a traversal tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is the Advanced Glider recipe located?
The Advanced Glider recipe is typically found in chests in the Revelwood region, especially around the Ancient Spire or the Pikemead’s Reach area. You may need to explore thoroughly to find it.

Q: Can I use the glider to fly upwards?
No, the glider only allows you to descend slowly while moving forward. To gain altitude, you must use updrafts or start from a higher point.

Q: How do I get Silk for the Superior Glider?
Silk is dropped by spiders in the Kindlewastes region, or can be obtained by destroying spider nests. It’s a rare drop, so you may need to farm for a while.

Q: Is the Superior Glider worth the effort?
Yes, if you plan to explore the later regions like the Kindlewastes and the Mountains, the Superior Glider’s increased speed and control make it much easier to navigate vertical terrain and avoid fall damage.

Q: Why is my glider not deploying?
Make sure you have the glider equipped in your tool slot, and that you are holding the jump button while in the air. Also, ensure you are not out of stamina, as you cannot deploy the glider if you are exhausted.

Q: Can I upgrade the glider at the Blacksmith?
No, the glider is crafted at the Workbench, not the Blacksmith. The Blacksmith only unlocks the recipes for the basic and advanced gliders, but the crafting itself happens at the Workbench.
