The Wet debuff in Enshrouded reduces your stamina regeneration by 20% and makes you more vulnerable to the Cold status effect. To get rid of it, simply stand near a fire source (campfire, torch, or fireplace) for a few seconds, or equip gear and food that grant Wet Resistance. Below is everything you need to know about the debuff, its causes, and the most reliable ways to remove it.

Formula

The formula used above estimates how many 10-second “ticks” of fire exposure are needed to remove the Wet debuff, given your Wet Resistance percentage. It is not an official game formula, but a practical approximation based on observed behavior: each second near a fire reduces the remaining Wet duration by a base amount, and Wet Resistance accelerates that reduction.

Let:

  • t = time spent near a fire source (seconds)
  • wet = your total Wet Resistance from gear, food, and buffs (%)

Estimated ticks to remove = t * (1 + wet/100) / 10, rounded down to the nearest whole tick. A tick is one game-logic update (roughly 10 seconds of real time). The result tells you how many ticks you need to stand near the fire to fully clear the debuff.

Worked Example

Using the default values: you stand near a campfire for 10 seconds, and you have 0% Wet Resistance.

  1. Base reduction = 10 seconds × (1 + 0/100) = 10 seconds
  2. Ticks = 10 / 10 = 1 tick
  3. Result: 1 tick (the debuff is removed after one 10-second exposure)

If you instead have 50% Wet Resistance (e.g., from a Wet Resistance food), standing for 10 seconds gives: 10 × 1.5 = 15 seconds, which is 1.5 ticks, rounded down to 1. So you still need roughly the same time, but with higher resistance the debuff may expire on its own faster.

What Causes the Wet Debuff?

The Wet debuff appears when your character becomes soaked. Common triggers include:

  • Swimming or wading in water (lakes, rivers, or flooded ruins)
  • Walking through heavy rain during a storm
  • Being hit by certain enemy attacks that apply water or ice damage
  • Standing under a waterfall or in a downpour while exploring

Once applied, the debuff lasts for a set duration (roughly 60 seconds in most cases) unless you actively remove it. The icon appears near your health bar, showing a droplet with a downward arrow.

How to Remove the Wet Debuff

The most straightforward method is to stand near any heat source. This includes:

  • Campfires (crafted or found in the world)
  • Torches placed on walls or standing braziers
  • Fireplaces in buildings
  • Lava pools (if you can safely approach)

You need to remain within the fire’s radius (about 2-3 meters) for roughly 10-15 seconds. The debuff icon will flicker and then disappear. If you are in combat, you can still do this, but you may need to retreat temporarily.

Another method is to consume food or potions that grant Wet Resistance. These do not instantly cure the debuff, but they shorten its duration or prevent it from being applied in the first place. Look for dishes that mention “Wet Resistance” in their tooltip, such as grilled meat with herbs or certain stews.

How to Prevent the Wet Debuff

Prevention is often easier than cure. The following gear and consumables reduce or eliminate Wet:

  • Wet Resistance armor: Some armor sets (e.g., the Hunter set or the Ranger set) have innate Wet Resistance. Check the stats on each piece.
  • Food buffs: Certain meals, like the “Hearty Stew” or “Mushroom Omelette”, grant a temporary Wet Resistance buff for 10-15 minutes.
  • Potions: The “Potion of Dryness” (if available) instantly removes Wet and grants immunity for a short time. This is a rare drop from certain enemies or found in chests.
  • Shelter: During rain, build a simple roof or stand under a tree canopy. The game checks for overhead cover when applying the debuff.

Common Mistakes and Misconceptions

Many players think that simply moving out of the rain will remove the debuff instantly. That is not true—the debuff persists for its full duration unless you use fire or resistance. Another mistake is assuming that all fire sources work equally; a small torch may take longer than a large campfire. In practice, the size does not matter, only proximity and time.

Some players also confuse Wet with the Cold debuff. Cold is a separate status that reduces stamina regen and can lead to hypothermia if you are also wet. Wet makes Cold worse, so removing Wet quickly is important in colder biomes like the Revelwood or the Nomad Highlands.

When You Should Care About Wet

The Wet debuff is not always a problem. In the early game, it is a minor annoyance. However, in mid-to-late game areas with frequent rain or water traversal, it can be deadly because it pairs with Cold to drain your health. If you are exploring the Kindlewastes (desert) or the Albaneve Summits (snowy), the debuff can cause frostbite, which reduces your maximum health by 10% per stack.

Always carry a few fire arrows or a campfire kit in your inventory. You can place a campfire anywhere (even in shallow water) and stand on the edge to dry off. This is the most reliable emergency method.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Wet debuff go away on its own?

Yes, it lasts about 60 seconds by default. The timer pauses if you are still in water or rain. Standing under cover or near fire speeds up the removal.

Can I remove Wet by using a fast-travel point?

No, fast traveling does not clear the debuff. You will still be wet when you arrive at your destination. You need fire or resistance.

Does the Wet debuff affect all characters equally?

Yes, the stamina regen penalty is the same for all classes. However, mages may suffer more because they rely on stamina for casting, while melee fighters can still attack slowly.

Is there a console command to remove Wet?

In single-player, you can open the console (F1) and type status_remove wet. This is not available in multiplayer servers unless you are the host with admin rights.

Does wearing the “Dried” armor set help?

There is no armor set literally called “Dried,” but the “Ranger” set has a hidden Wet Resistance stat. Check each piece’s details; some pieces list “Wet Resistance +X%” explicitly.

Can I use a torch while swimming to dry off?

No, torches do not work underwater. You need to get out of the water first. Once on land, holding a torch does not help either—you must stand near a placed fire source, not just hold one.
