To make arrows in Enshrouded, you need a Hunter’s Workbench, which you unlock after rescuing the Hunter from the Ancient Spire in Springlands. At that workbench, combine 1 Wood and 1 Feather to craft 1 Arrow, or use the higher-tier recipes that add Metal Scraps or Shroud Liquid for better arrows.

Formula

The arrow crafting system doesn’t use a mathematical formula—it’s a simple resource conversion at a workbench. The general pattern is:

Base Arrow = 1 Wood + 1 Feather → 1 Arrow

Fire Arrow = 1 Wood + 1 Feather + 1 Shroud Liquid → 1 Fire Arrow

Poison Arrow = 1 Wood + 1 Feather + 1 Shroud Spore → 1 Poison Arrow

Each variable is a stackable item you collect from the world: Wood from trees or logs, Feathers from birds (especially the large ones near the starting area), Shroud Liquid from the glowing plants in the Shroud, and Shroud Spores from the spore pods found in the same biome.

Worked Example

Let’s craft 50 base arrows using the default values from the calculator above (which actually shows running pace, but we’ll use the same logic for resource counting).

  1. Gather 50 Wood and 50 Feathers.
  2. Open the Hunter’s Workbench (press E near it).
  3. Select the Arrow recipe (the first one in the list).
  4. Set the quantity to 50.
  5. Confirm the craft — the game consumes 50 Wood and 50 Feathers and gives you 50 Arrows.

If you have the materials, the workbench will produce the arrows instantly (no crafting time). The result is exactly 50 arrows in your inventory.

Unlocking the Hunter’s Workbench

You can’t make arrows at the basic workbench you start with. The Hunter’s Workbench becomes available after you rescue the Hunter NPC. To do that:

  • Travel to the Ancient Spire in the Springlands (southwest of the starting area).
  • Climb the spire and free the Hunter from the capsule at the top.
  • Return to your base and place the Hunter’s Summoning Staff (crafted from the Hunter’s remains you collect).
  • Summon the Hunter at your base, then talk to her to unlock the workbench recipe.

Once the workbench is built, you’ll see all arrow recipes available. You can also upgrade the workbench later to unlock advanced arrow types like the Wasp Arrow or the Explosive Arrow, which require rarer materials.

Where to Find Feathers and Wood

Feathers are the bottleneck for most players. Birds drop them, but not every bird drops one. The most reliable source is the large flightless birds (often called “turkeys” by the community) that roam the meadows near the starting area. They drop 2-3 feathers each and respawn after a few in-game days. You can also find feathers in nests on the ground or in trees, but those are rarer.

Wood is everywhere. Chop any tree, break logs, or loot wooden crates. You’ll have hundreds of wood pieces before you even leave the first area. If you’re short, just hit a few trees with your axe.

Advanced Arrow Types and Their Uses

Once you have the Hunter’s Workbench upgraded (requires the Hunter to be level 3 or higher), you unlock better arrows:

  • Fire Arrow – Adds fire damage over time. Great against enemies weak to fire, like the Vukah. Costs 1 Shroud Liquid per arrow.
  • Poison Arrow – Adds poison damage. Effective against heavily armored enemies. Costs 1 Shroud Spore per arrow.
  • Wasp Arrow – Deals extra damage and has a chance to poison. Requires Wasp Stingers, which drop from the wasp nests in the desert biome.
  • Explosive Arrow – Deals area damage. Requires Gunpowder and Shroud Liquid. Very powerful but expensive.

Each arrow type has a different damage multiplier and status effect. Read the tooltip before crafting to match the arrow to your target.

Common Mistakes and Misconceptions

Many players think arrows are crafted at the basic workbench, but they aren’t. You must have the Hunter’s Workbench. Another common mistake is hoarding feathers instead of using them—feathers are only used for arrows, so spend them freely.

A big misconception is that you can recover arrows from dead enemies or the ground. In Enshrouded, arrows are consumed on use. You don’t get them back, so always carry a stack of 100-200 when exploring. Also, the arrow you craft is the base type; you can’t convert base arrows into elemental ones later. You must craft the elemental type directly.

Cost Comparison: Crafting vs. Buying

You can buy arrows from the Hunter at your base, but they cost coins. Early in the game, coins are scarce, so crafting is almost always cheaper. For example, 50 base arrows cost 50 Wood and 50 Feathers—both are free to gather. Buying 50 arrows might cost 50-100 coins, which is better spent on gear or building materials. However, if you’re in a hurry and have coins to spare, buying is a time-saver.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I craft arrows at the normal workbench?
Arrows are a Hunter-specific recipe. You must build the Hunter’s Workbench after rescuing the Hunter. The basic workbench only handles building materials and simple tools.

How do I get more feathers quickly?
Kill the large birds near the Springlands. They respawn every few days. Also, check bird nests on the ground—they sometimes contain feathers. If you have a lot of time, build a small hunting camp near a bird spawn point.

Do arrows break or can I recover them?
Arrows are consumed when fired. You cannot pick them up from the ground or from enemies. Always craft more than you think you need.

What’s the best arrow for early game?
Base arrows are fine for early game. Once you reach the Shroud areas, craft Fire Arrows for the extra damage against the Shroud creatures. Save Poison Arrows for armored enemies.

Can I upgrade my arrows to a higher tier?
No, you cannot upgrade an existing arrow. You must craft the higher tier directly. However, you can upgrade the Hunter’s Workbench to unlock better recipes.

Why does my Hunter’s Workbench not show the arrow recipe?
Make sure you’ve rescued the Hunter and placed her at your base. Then, interact with the workbench and scroll through the recipe list. If it’s still missing, check if you have the required materials—some recipes are grayed out until you have the ingredients.
