Helio G70 vs Helio G91: Specs and Benchmarks

Card No. 06·17944 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

The Helio G91 is a modest refresh of the Helio G70, not a faster-generation chip: both use an eight-core CPU and Mali-G52 MC2 graphics, while the G91 adds newer camera support and a higher supported display resolution. Benchmark scores vary by phone and test, but published results generally put their CPU and GPU performance in the same broad entry-level range; a G91 device is not guaranteed to outperform every G70 phone.

Key specifications at a glance

MediaTek introduced the Helio G70 in 2020 and the Helio G91 in 2024. Both are 12 nm mobile platforms with two Arm Cortex-A75 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Their listed maximum CPU clock speeds are the same: up to 2.0 GHz for the A75 cores and up to 1.7 GHz for the A55 cores.

  • CPU: 2 × Cortex-A75 up to 2.0 GHz, plus 6 × Cortex-A55 up to 1.7 GHz on both chips.
  • Graphics: Arm Mali-G52 MC2, operating at up to 820 MHz on both.
  • Manufacturing process: 12 nm for both.
  • Memory and storage: support depends on the platform configuration and the phone maker; device specifications matter more than the chip name alone.
  • Display and cameras: the G91 supports higher-resolution camera configurations and displays up to Full HD+ at 90 Hz; the G70 platform is specified for displays up to 2520 × 1080 at 60 Hz.

Those platform limits are not promises about any particular handset. A manufacturer can use a lower-resolution screen, a slower refresh rate, or camera sensors with different capabilities. Check the phone’s own specification sheet before treating a chip feature as a device feature.

What changed from G70 to G91?

The clearest distinction is imaging support. MediaTek lists the G91 with support for a camera sensor of up to 108 MP, along with features such as multi-frame noise reduction. The G70’s published camera support is lower, with a maximum sensor resolution listed at 48 MP. These figures describe what the processor platform can support; they do not establish the image quality of a phone’s camera.

Sensor size, lens quality, stabilization, image processing, camera software and the maker’s implementation all affect real photos. A 108 MP sensor can produce less pleasing pictures than a well-integrated lower-resolution camera. Likewise, a phone with a G91 may not include a 108 MP sensor at all.

The G91 also supports a Full HD+ display with a refresh rate up to 90 Hz, whereas the G70’s listed maximum is 60 Hz. A compatible 90 Hz screen can make scrolling look smoother, but the handset must actually have that panel and software settings may let users select a lower refresh rate. The CPU and GPU specifications, by contrast, are essentially unchanged.

Benchmark results: what to expect

There is no single benchmark score for either processor. Results depend on the exact phone, memory configuration, cooling, firmware, battery condition and benchmark version. Different publications and databases may test different handsets, so a comparison is most useful when both chips were measured on devices under similar conditions.

Across commonly reported results, the G70 and G91 typically land in a similar entry-level performance class. Their shared CPU layout and graphics unit explain why a large, consistent performance gap should not be expected. Some comparison databases show small leads for one chip in a particular test, but that is not evidence that every G91 phone is faster. Thermal limits or a more capable device design can outweigh the small differences between runs.

  • Geekbench: compare single-core and multi-core scores from the same Geekbench version. These indicate CPU performance in short workloads, not a complete measure of phone speed.
  • AnTuTu: the overall score combines several components and can change substantially between versions. Compare like with like, including the version and handset.
  • 3DMark or other graphics tests: results help indicate graphics capability, but sustained performance and game settings also depend on cooling and software.

For practical use, both chips suit everyday tasks such as messaging, browsing, video playback and lighter games. Demanding games may require reduced graphics settings, and heavy multitasking can be constrained by a phone’s RAM and storage as much as by its processor. A benchmark is a useful clue, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or loading time.

Gaming, battery life and everyday use

Because both platforms use the same listed GPU and similar CPU clocks, choosing the G91 alone does not promise a major gaming upgrade over the G70. Game performance varies with the title, resolution, graphics settings, software optimization and how well the phone can shed heat. A higher-refresh display may make supported games look smoother, but it does not mean the processor can render every game at 90 frames per second.

Battery life is even less directly determined by the chip label. Screen size and brightness, battery capacity, cellular signal, background apps and the phone’s power management all matter. The 12 nm manufacturing process is shared, so the G91 should not automatically be assumed to offer a major efficiency improvement. Look for reviews of the exact handset when battery endurance is a priority.

Which one should you choose?

Between two otherwise similar phones, the G91 can be preferable for its newer camera and display support. But the processor should not outweigh more meaningful differences in the actual devices. Compare the screen, camera implementation, RAM, storage, software support, battery capacity and overall condition.

  • Choose a G91 phone if its camera hardware, 90 Hz display or other device features are useful and the handset is otherwise a good fit.
  • A G70 phone can still make sense for basic daily use if it offers better overall hardware or value; the G91 name alone does not make it a faster-class device.
  • For gaming or intensive apps, look up benchmarks and sustained-performance tests for the exact models rather than relying on a chip-to-chip headline score.

Also check the phone’s software update situation and network-band support for your region. Those are properties of the particular model and seller, not conclusions that can be drawn from the processor comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Helio G91 faster than the Helio G70?
Not by a clear, across-the-board margin. They share the same listed CPU core arrangement, maximum CPU clocks and Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. Differences in benchmark results often reflect the tested phones and conditions.

Does the Helio G91 support a 108 MP camera?
MediaTek lists support for camera sensors up to 108 MP on the G91 platform. A phone using the chip may have a lower-resolution camera, and the sensor’s megapixel count alone does not determine photo quality.

Can a Helio G91 phone have a 90 Hz screen?
Yes, the platform supports displays up to Full HD+ at 90 Hz. The phone maker must install a suitable panel, so confirm the handset’s specifications rather than assuming every G91 phone has one.

Are Helio G70 and G91 good for gaming?
They can handle lighter games, but both are entry-level platforms with the same listed graphics processor. Demanding games may need lower settings; results depend on the particular phone and game.

Why do benchmark scores differ between websites?
Tests may use different phones, benchmark versions, memory configurations, temperatures and software. Compare results from the same test version and similar devices, and treat small score differences cautiously.
