How to Redeem and Use Exclusive Extras in Kingdom Hearts Collection

Card No. 06·8324 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

This guide explains how to redeem and use the exclusive extras included with the Kingdom Hearts HD collections on PlayStation and Xbox. You’ll learn where to find the codes, how to enter them, and what each bonus does in-game, so you can start with every advantage.

What You’ll Need

  • A copy of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX or Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (physical or digital).
  • An internet connection for downloading the extras if they are not on the disc.
  • A PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account (for redeeming codes, if applicable).
  • The game case or email receipt containing the redemption code (for physical copies).

Step-by-Step

  1. Identify your collection version. The extras differ between the two main collections. For KH 1.5 + 2.5, the exclusive extras are typically a set of downloadable themes for your console’s home screen. For KH 2.8, the extras include a special Keyblade (Star Seal) and a set of console themes.
  2. Check for a redemption code. If you bought a physical copy, look inside the case for a slip of paper with a code. Digital pre-orders often have the code emailed to you or automatically applied to your account. If you bought a standard digital copy after release, check the store page for any included bonuses.
  3. Redeem the code on your console. On PlayStation, go to the PlayStation Store, scroll to the bottom of the left sidebar, and select “Redeem Codes.” Enter the 12-digit code exactly as printed. On Xbox, press the Xbox button, go to the Store, then select “Redeem” and enter the 25-character code.
  4. Download the extras. After redeeming, the themes or Keyblade will appear as a download in your notification list (PS) or in “Ready to Install” under My Games & Apps (Xbox). Download them to your console.
  5. Apply the themes (for both collections). On PlayStation, go to Settings > Themes, select the Kingdom Hearts theme you downloaded, and press the Options button to apply it. On Xbox, go to Settings > Personalization > My Theme, and choose the theme from the list.
  6. Use the Star Seal Keyblade (KH 2.8 only). Start Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance (included in 2.8). After the opening tutorial, open the pause menu and select “Equipment.” The Star Seal should be in your inventory. Equip it to Sora or Riku to boost your stats and gain the “Damage Syphon” ability, which restores HP when you land finishing moves.
  7. For digital pre-order bonuses that are already installed: If you pre-ordered digitally, the extras are often included automatically. For themes, they appear in your theme settings immediately. For the Keyblade, it may be in your inventory from the start, or you may need to download it from the store page again.

Common Mistakes

  • Entering the code on the wrong account. Codes are tied to one account. If you redeem on a child account or a friend’s account, you won’t get the extras on your main profile.
  • Typing the code with spaces or hyphens. Enter the code exactly as printed, without extra characters. Some codes are case-sensitive, so use uppercase if that’s how it’s shown.
  • Expecting the Star Seal in KH 1.5 or 2.5. The Star Seal is only in the 2.8 collection. The first collection’s exclusive extras are only themes, not in-game items.
  • Forgetting to download after redemption. Redeeming the code only adds the item to your account; you still need to download it from the store or your library.
  • Looking for the Keyblade in the wrong game. The Star Seal is for Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, not for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix or Birth by Sleep. Make sure you’re playing the right title.

Tips

  • Redeem codes as soon as you get the game. Some codes expire after a few years, so don’t leave them sitting in the case.
  • Check the in-game gift box. In KH 2.8, if the Star Seal doesn’t appear in your equipment menu, check the gift box in the game’s main menu. It may be waiting there.
  • Use the Star Seal early. It’s one of the best Keyblades in Dream Drop Distance, with high Strength and Magic stats. Equip it as soon as you get it to make early bosses easier.
  • Match themes to your mood. The themes often feature artwork from the games. Try them all to see which one you like best.
  • If you bought used, ask the seller. Used copies often have the code already redeemed. If the code slip is missing, the extras are likely gone, but you can still buy the themes separately on the store.

Troubleshooting

The code says invalid or already used. Double-check the code for typos. If it’s still invalid, it may have expired (rare) or already been redeemed. Contact the retailer if you bought it new and the code is invalid.

The theme doesn’t appear after download. Restart your console. If it still doesn’t show, go to Settings > Themes and see if it’s listed. If not, try re-downloading from your library.

The Star Seal isn’t in my inventory. Make sure you are playing Dream Drop Distance, not another game in the collection. If you’re at the very beginning, you might need to progress past the opening tutorial until you can access the equipment menu.

I redeemed the code but nothing happened. Check your download list or notification center. Sometimes the download is queued but not started. Manually start it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use the themes on both PS4 and PS5?
A: Yes, themes purchased or redeemed on your PlayStation account are available on any console you’re signed into, including PS5.

Q: Do the extras work on Xbox One and Xbox Series X?
A: Yes, the collection is playable on both, and the extras (themes) work on both. The Star Seal Keyblade is in the game itself, so it works everywhere.

Q: Are the extras exclusive to pre-orders?
A: The Star Seal Keyblade was a pre-order bonus for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, but it was later included in the standard release as a downloadable extra. The themes were also included in the standard release. So you can get them even if you didn’t pre-order.

Q: Can I get the extras if I bought the game used?
A: If the previous owner redeemed the code, no. But if the code is unused, you can redeem it. The Star Seal is also available as a free download from the store for a limited time after release, so check the store page.

Q: Do the extras carry over to Kingdom Hearts III?
A: No, the themes and Star Seal are only for the games in the collection. They do not affect Kingdom Hearts III.

Q: What does the Star Seal Keyblade do?
A: It has high Strength and Magic stats, and grants the Damage Syphon ability, which restores HP when you perform a finishing move. It’s one of the best Keyblades in Dream Drop Distance.
