Jira Automation is a built-in rule engine, but its API-driven workflow capabilities are limited by rate limits, a constrained rule syntax, and a lack of native support for complex orchestration. If you need to trigger actions from external systems, handle webhooks, or run multi-step integrations, you should consider dedicated alternatives like n8n, Zapier, Make, or a custom script using the Jira REST API. This article explains the main options, how they compare, and how to choose one for your specific workflow.

Formula

The calculator above computes average pace and speed from a finish time and distance. The formulas are:

  • Pace = Finish time (minutes) ÷ Distance (km) → result in min/km
  • Speed = Distance (km) ÷ (Finish time (minutes) ÷ 60) → result in km/h

Variables: t = finish time in minutes, d = distance in kilometers. All inputs are positive numbers.

Worked Example

Using the default values: t = 50 minutes, d = 10 km.

  1. Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
  2. Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h

The calculator returns 5.00 min/km and 12.00 km/h.

When to Use This Calculator

Use this when you have a race result or a training run time and want to know your average pace per kilometer or your average speed. It is useful for setting training targets, comparing performances on different distances, or planning race pace. The result is a simple average—it does not account for elevation gain, stops, or varying effort.

How to Read the Result

A lower pace (min/km) means faster running. A higher speed (km/h) also means faster. For example, a 5.00 min/km pace equals 12.00 km/h. If you run on a treadmill set to a fixed speed, the speed value tells you what to set. If you run outdoors with hills, your actual effort may feel different even if the average pace is the same.

Common Mistakes

  • Unit mix-ups: Entering finish time in hours instead of minutes. Convert hours to minutes first (e.g., 1:30:00 = 90 minutes).
  • Distance in miles: The calculator assumes kilometers. To use miles, convert miles to km (1 mile = 1.60934 km) before entering.
  • Rounding too early: If you round the pace to 5.0 and then compute speed, you may get a slightly different result. Keep full precision until the final step.

Limitations of the Formula

This is an arithmetic average. It does not reflect changes in pace during the run, walking breaks, or the effect of terrain. For interval training, you would need to calculate each segment separately. The formula also assumes a constant speed, which is rarely true in real runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert my pace from min/km to min/mile?

Multiply the pace in min/km by 1.60934. For example, 5.00 min/km × 1.60934 = 8.05 min/mile. Alternatively, use the speed in km/h and divide 60 by that speed to get min/km, then convert.

What is a good running pace for a beginner?

There is no universal number. A comfortable conversational pace for a beginner might be 7–9 min/km (about 6.7–8.6 km/h). Your pace depends on age, fitness, and training. The calculator helps you measure your current pace, not judge it.

Can I use this for walking or cycling?

Yes, the math works for any activity where you know total time and distance. For cycling, speeds are higher, so you might prefer the speed output. For walking, pace in min/km is common.

Why does the speed output show 12.00 km/h but my GPS watch says 11.8?

GPS watches often measure instantaneous speed or account for elevation and stops. This calculator uses total time and total distance, which is a true average. Differences are normal.

How do I calculate pace for a half marathon (21.1 km) if I want to finish in 2 hours?

Convert 2 hours to 120 minutes. Enter t = 120 and d = 21.1. The calculator gives 5.69 min/km. That is your target pace. Use it to set your watch or plan splits.
