Kodi TV boxes are small media player devices that run the open-source Kodi software, turning your TV into a hub for streaming local files, network media, and add-ons. You plug one into your TV’s HDMI port, connect it to the internet, and use a remote or app to browse and play content. This article explains what these boxes actually do, the legal and safety issues around them, and how to choose one that fits your needs.

Formula

The calculator above works out your running pace and speed from two inputs: the time it took you to finish a run and the distance you covered. The formulas are:

Pace (min/km) = Finish time (minutes) ÷ Distance (km)

Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) ÷ (Finish time (minutes) ÷ 60)

Where:

  • Finish time (t) – total time in minutes (e.g., 50 minutes).
  • Distance (d) – distance in kilometers (e.g., 10 km).
  • Pace – how many minutes it takes to run one kilometer, shown as min/km.
  • Speed – average speed in kilometers per hour.

Worked Example

Using the default values: finish time = 50 minutes, distance = 10 km.

Step 1: Calculate pace. Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.0 min/km.

Step 2: Calculate speed. Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.0 km/h.

So with a 50-minute 10K run, your average pace is 5:00 per kilometer and your average speed is 12 km/h.

When to Use This Calculator

Use this tool whenever you want to know your average pace or speed for a run, bike ride, walk, or any distance-based activity. It’s especially helpful for training: you can set a target pace for a race, check whether you’re on track during a workout, or compare your performance across different routes and distances.

The result is an average over the whole distance. If you run hills or start fast and slow down, your actual pace at any moment will vary. For real-time pace, you’d need a GPS watch or phone app.

How to Read the Result

The pace output is in minutes per kilometer. A lower pace number means faster running (e.g., 4:30 min/km is faster than 6:00 min/km). The speed output is in kilometers per hour; a higher number means faster movement. If you’re used to miles, you can convert: 1 mile = 1.60934 km. To get pace in min/mile, divide the min/km pace by 1.60934 (or multiply speed in km/h by 0.621371 to get mph).

For example, a 5:00 min/km pace equals about 8:03 per mile. A speed of 12 km/h equals about 7.5 mph.

Common Mistakes

  • Mixing units: Entering distance in miles but expecting km/h results, or entering time in hours instead of minutes. Always convert to the same unit system first.
  • Forgetting to convert seconds: If your time is 50 minutes and 30 seconds, convert the seconds to decimal minutes (30 ÷ 60 = 0.5) so you enter 50.5 minutes.
  • Rounding too early: If you round the pace to 5.0 and then compute speed from that, you may get a slightly different answer. Use the full precision until the final step.

Limitations of the Formula

This formula gives a simple average. It does not account for elevation gain, terrain, wind, or stops. If you pause your watch during a run, the time you enter should be the moving time, not the elapsed time, to get an accurate average pace. For interval training, you’d want separate splits, not one overall average.

Also, the formula assumes constant speed. In reality, your pace changes constantly, but the average is still useful for planning and tracking progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good running pace for a beginner? A typical beginner might run at 7–9 min/km (about 11–13 min/mile). That’s a speed of roughly 6.7–8.6 km/h. It varies widely by age, fitness, and gender.

How do I convert min/km to min/mile? Multiply the min/km pace by 1.60934. For example, 5:00 min/km × 1.60934 = 8:03 min/mile. To convert speed, multiply km/h by 0.621371 to get mph.

Is it better to use pace or speed? Runners typically use pace (min/km or min/mile) because it’s easier to gauge effort during a run. Cyclists and drivers usually use speed (km/h or mph). Both are mathematically equivalent.

What if I run on a treadmill? Treadmills usually show speed in km/h or mph. You can use the speed output to compare with treadmill settings. For pace, just divide 60 by the treadmill speed (in km/h) to get min/km.

Does this calculator work for walking? Yes, it works for any distance and time. Walking pace is typically 10–15 min/km (about 4–6 km/h).

Why does my GPS watch give a different pace? GPS watches calculate pace in real-time using satellite data and may average over shorter intervals. They also account for elevation and turns. Your manual calculation is the true average over the whole distance.
