Mortal Shell 2 Waterfall Camp Dungeon Location & Guide

Card No. 06·6038 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

The Waterfall Camp dungeon in Mortal Shell 2 is located in the Fallgrim region, behind a hidden waterfall in the northeastern part of the map. This guide explains exactly how to reach it, what to expect inside, and how to defeat the boss to claim the unique rewards.

Background: What Is the Waterfall Camp?

Waterfall Camp is one of the optional dungeons in Mortal Shell 2, added in the free “Fallgrim Revisited” update. It is a small, self-contained area with a mini-boss, a new weapon, and a lore-rich environment that expands on the game’s world. Unlike the main story dungeons, Waterfall Camp is not required to finish the game, but it offers significant rewards for exploration.

How to Find the Waterfall Camp

To reach the dungeon, start from the Fallgrim Tower and head east toward the Grisha’s Lair. Instead of entering the lair, continue past it and follow the cliff edge north. You will see a large waterfall cascading down a rock face. Behind the waterfall is a narrow cave entrance.

  • From the Tower, go east past the Grisha’s Lair.
  • Follow the cliff path until you see the waterfall.
  • Walk through the waterfall to find the cave entrance.
  • Enter the cave and follow the tunnel until you reach the dungeon’s first area.

There are no required keys or items to enter, but be prepared for a fight—the cave narrows and you may be ambushed by a couple of Grisha minions.

Inside the Dungeon: Layout and Enemies

The dungeon consists of three main areas: a flooded entrance hall, a central chamber with a large pool, and the boss arena behind a locked gate. The entrance hall has a few roaming Grisha and a chest containing a Quenching Acid. The central chamber is where you’ll find the boss’s arena, but the gate is locked. To open it, you must find the Rusted Key in a side room accessible by dropping down a hole in the floor of the entrance hall.

Enemies inside are mostly Grisha variants and a new enemy type, the Waterlogged Shell, which attacks with a water-based projectile. They are slow but hit hard, so keep your distance and use your hardening ability to block their attacks.

Boss Fight: The Drowned Knight

The boss of Waterfall Camp is the Drowned Knight, a tall armored figure wielding a greatsword. He has two phases:

  • Phase 1: He uses slow, heavy swings and a lunging thrust. His attacks are telegraphed, so dodge or harden through them. He is vulnerable to stagger after three hits.
  • Phase 2: At 50% health, he begins to summon water spirits that fly toward you. He also gains a new combo that ends with a ground slam that creates a shockwave. Use the pillars in the arena to block the spirits, and roll through the shockwave.

After defeating him, you receive the Drowned Knight’s Greatsword, a new weapon that scales with Strength and deals extra damage to enemies affected by water (i.e., those you’ve hit with your own water-based abilities). You also unlock a new shell, the Drowned Shell, which has a unique ability that increases your stamina regeneration when you’re near water.

Rewards and Loot

Beyond the boss rewards, the dungeon contains several valuable items:

  • Quenching Acid (in the entrance hall chest)
  • Rusted Key (in the side room)
  • Waterlogged Shell (a new consumable that applies a water debuff to enemies)
  • Lore item: “The Drowned Knight’s Journal” (found in the boss arena)

The journal reveals that the Drowned Knight was once a Fallgrim knight who tried to protect the nearby village from a flood. It adds depth to the game’s lore about the Old World.

Common Mistakes and Tips

Players often miss the side room with the Rusted Key because the hole in the floor is hidden behind a crate. Make sure to break all crates in the entrance hall. Also, the boss’s water spirits can be destroyed with a single attack, so don’t waste stamina dodging them—just swing at them.

Another common mistake is forgetting that your hardening ability can block the boss’s shockwave if you time it right. Practice the timing, as it will save you a lot of health.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Waterfall Camp worth doing?
Yes, the Drowned Knight’s Greatsword is one of the best Strength weapons in the game, and the Drowned Shell’s stamina regeneration is useful for exploration.

Q: Can I enter Waterfall Camp before finishing the main story?
Yes, it is accessible as soon as you reach Fallgrim. The enemies are scaled to your level, so you can go early, but the boss may be tough if you’re underleveled.

Q: How do I get the Rusted Key?
Drop down the hole in the floor of the entrance hall (behind the crates) and follow the tunnel to a small room with the key on a pedestal.

Q: What is the best strategy for the Drowned Knight?
Use a fast weapon to stagger him, and keep a pillar between you and his water spirits. When he slams the ground, roll toward him to avoid the shockwave.

Q: Are there any other hidden areas in the dungeon?
Yes, after defeating the boss, the gate behind the arena opens to a small cave with a chest containing a Tar and a Glimpse.
