Planet Zoo Achievement & Trophy Completion Checklist

Card No. 06·52049 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

Planet Zoo features 119 Steam achievements and, on console versions, a matching set of trophies. This checklist organizes every achievement by category, explains how to unlock each one, and highlights the most time-consuming or easily missed tasks so you can plan a complete playthrough.

Understanding the Achievement System

Planet Zoo’s achievements are tied to the game’s three main modes: Franchise, Challenge, and Sandbox. Most achievements can be earned in any mode, but a few require specific conditions, such as reaching a certain number of guests or breeding a rare animal. The game tracks progress automatically, and achievements unlock the moment you meet the requirement—no manual claiming is needed.

On Steam, the achievement list is identical across all DLC packs. Console versions (PlayStation and Xbox) use the same list but label them as trophies. There are no hidden achievements; every one is visible in the in-game menu or platform overlay.

Below is the complete list, grouped by the type of task. Each entry includes the achievement name and the exact unlock condition as stated in the game.

How to Check Your Progress

On Steam, open your friends list and click your profile, then select “All Games” and find Planet Zoo. The achievement list shows each one with a percentage of global players who have unlocked it, which helps gauge rarity. On consoles, the trophy list is under the game’s tile in the system menu.

In-game, you can also view achievements via the main menu under “Extras” or “Options,” depending on the version. The game does not show a progress bar for achievements that require cumulative numbers (like “release 10 animals”), so you must track those manually or rely on the platform’s counter if available.

Most Time-Consuming Achievements

Some achievements take dozens of hours and are often the last ones players unlock. Here are the ones that typically require the most effort:

  • Franchise Tycoon – Earning 1 million conservation credits is a grind. You earn CC by releasing high-value animals to the wild, so breed animals with good genetics and release them repeatedly. It can take 100+ hours of active play.
  • Endangered Species Champion – Breeding 100 endangered animals requires a steady supply of animals with high fertility. Focus on species that breed quickly, like red pandas or pygmy hippos, and keep multiple breeding pairs.
  • Five Star Zoo – Reaching 5 stars requires excellent guest happiness, high animal welfare, and enough facilities. It’s easier in sandbox mode with unlimited money, but still requires careful management.
  • Veterinary Expert – Curing 50 animals can be slow if your zoo is clean. To speed this up, intentionally let animals get sick by neglecting their water quality, then cure them. This is easier in a separate sandbox zoo.

Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

One common mistake is assuming that achievements require a single playthrough. In reality, you can earn them across multiple zoos and modes. For example, “Release 10 animals to the wild” can be done in career, franchise, or sandbox—the counter is cumulative across all saves.

Another mistake is ignoring the “Hard” difficulty career scenarios. Some achievements, like “Veteran Zookeeper,” require completing all scenarios, including the harder ones. Don’t skip them; they are not optional.

Also, note that some achievements are bugged on certain platforms. For instance, “Perfect Pair” has been reported to not unlock if you breed animals that were already at 100% compatibility before a game update. If this happens, try breeding a new pair from scratch.

Tips for Efficient Achievement Hunting

To minimize time, use sandbox mode with money cheats and all research unlocked. This lets you focus purely on the achievement conditions. For breeding achievements, set up multiple small habitats with fast-breeding animals like peafowl or guinea pigs—they reproduce quickly and don’t require large enclosures.

For the guest-related achievements, build a small zoo with high appeal and plenty of amenities. Place donation boxes and benches to keep guests happy. The “Guest Magnet” achievement (1,000 guests) is easier in franchise mode because you can open multiple zoos, but the guest count is per zoo, so you need to grow one zoo to 1,000 guests.

For the conservation credit grind, focus on animals with high genetic value, such as lions or elephants. Release them to the wild when they reach maturity. You can also participate in community challenges, which give bonus CC.

Comparing Across Versions

The achievement list is identical between PC and console versions, but the platform’s tracking may differ. On Steam, you can use third-party tools to see your exact progress on cumulative achievements. On consoles, the system tracks trophies but does not show a percentage per trophy unless you have a PlayStation Plus account (for PS).

There is no difference in the achievement names or conditions between the base game and DLC. All DLC animals and scenarios are included in the same achievement list, so you do not need to buy any DLC to get 100% achievements—only the base game is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do achievements unlock in sandbox mode? Yes, all achievements can be earned in sandbox mode, except for those that specifically mention “franchise mode” (like “Franchise Founder” and “Franchise Tycoon”). Sandbox mode is the easiest way to get most achievements because you can turn off money and research requirements.

Can I get all achievements without DLC? Yes, the achievement list is the same for the base game and with DLC. DLC adds new animals and scenarios, but no new achievements. You can achieve 100% with just the base game.

What is the fastest way to earn 1 million conservation credits? The fastest method is to breed animals with high genetic value, like lions, and release them to the wild. Each lion can give around 1,000 CC. You can also sell animals on the market for CC, but releasing them gives more. Use a franchise with multiple breeding pairs and check the market for high-value animals to buy.

Why didn’t my “Perfect Pair” achievement unlock? This achievement can be buggy. Make sure you have two animals with 100% compatibility in the same habitat, and they must be a male and female. If it still doesn’t unlock, try creating a new pair from different parents and wait for them to breed. Some players report that the achievement unlocks only when the pair produces an offspring.

Do I need to complete all career scenarios on hard difficulty? No, you can complete them on any difficulty. The achievement “Veteran Zookeeper” only requires completing all scenarios, not on hard. However, some scenarios have bonus objectives that are not required for the achievement.

Can I track my progress in-game? The game does not show progress bars for achievements. You must use your platform’s achievement tracker (Steam, Xbox, PlayStation) to see if you’ve unlocked a specific one. For cumulative achievements, you can keep a manual count or use a spreadsheet.
