Pokémon GO Party Play Tricks and Rewards Explained

Card No. 06·36948 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

Pokémon GO Party Play lets up to four nearby Trainers form a group, complete shared Party Challenges, and build toward extra damage with Party Power in raids. The useful “trick” is to choose challenges that fit what your group is already doing; rewards vary by challenge, while Party Play itself does not guarantee a fixed prize or a special catch.

What Party Play Does

Party Play is a group feature for Pokémon GO that links nearby players for a session. A host creates a party and shares a QR code or numeric code; other Trainers join, and the group can see members’ activity and progress on the Party screen. The feature is designed for people playing together in person, not for remotely joining a friend across the map.

A party can contain up to four Trainers, including its host. Members must meet the game’s current eligibility requirements and be close enough to join. Party sessions are limited in duration, so the group should pay attention to the timer shown in the game and start a new party if it expires. The exact interface and available tasks can change as Niantic updates the app.

Party Play is not the same as a Friend list, a team choice such as Instinct, Mystic, or Valor, or a raid lobby. It is a temporary shared play session that can overlap with catching Pokémon, spinning PokéStops, and raids.

How to Start and Join a Party

  1. Open Pokémon GO and tap your Trainer profile.
  2. Open the Party tab and choose the option to create a party. The host can display a QR code or share the join code shown in the app.
  3. Have nearby eligible players scan the code or enter it from their own Party screen. Check that the expected Trainers appear before starting.
  4. Choose a Party Challenge when prompted, then play together. The Party screen shows the current objective and group progress.

Menu labels or placement may shift with app updates, so use the Party tab and in-game prompts as the reference if a button looks different. If a player cannot join, check that everyone has a working connection, has updated the game, meets the displayed requirements, and is physically close enough. Restarting the app can help with a temporary display or connection problem, but it cannot remove eligibility limits.

Party Play Tricks That Actually Help

There is no secret code that awards extra items, and repeatedly opening the Party screen does not create bonus rewards. The practical advantage comes from coordinating the group so that challenge progress happens naturally:

  • Choose a challenge that matches your plan. If the group is going to catch Pokémon, select a catching task rather than one that requires a different activity. For a walk with frequent stops, a spinning or distance-related task may make more sense if it is offered.
  • Read the full objective before choosing. A challenge may count a particular action, not simply time spent in a party. Confirm what the game says qualifies and whether each member can contribute.
  • Keep the group together. Party Play depends on nearby play. Staying in the same area makes it easier to coordinate, contribute to tasks, and join activities together.
  • Use Party Power in eligible raids. When available, the Party Power button charges as party members use Fast Attacks. A charged activation boosts a subsequent Charged Attack. Coordinate activations with an attack that can benefit, rather than treating the button as a permanent damage increase.
  • Check the timer and progress. Complete a challenge before the session ends where possible, and avoid starting a task that the group cannot reasonably finish in the time available.

Party Power is a raid mechanic, not a general bonus to every Pokémon encounter. It does not replace choosing effective Pokémon or using suitable attacks, and it does not make a raid automatically winnable. Its availability and behavior can depend on the raid and the current game rules, which may be adjusted over time.

Party Challenges and Rewards

Party Challenges are shared objectives selected for the active session. Examples can involve catching Pokémon, spinning PokéStops or Gyms, or other in-game activity. The exact choices and rewards are not permanently fixed: the game presents the options available to that party, and Niantic can change them in updates or events.

After the group completes a challenge, the game displays its reward. Depending on the task and current availability, rewards may include items or an encounter. Read the completion screen rather than assuming every challenge gives the same reward. Party Play also has featured or event-related activities at times, so event details can add conditions or prizes that are not part of the ordinary party feature.

Some players call the strongest approach a “reward trick.” In practice, it means choosing a manageable challenge, ensuring the group is doing the qualifying actions, and completing it before the party session ends. It does not mean that one particular challenge always pays out the best item. Reward tables and task availability can change, and there is no reliable guarantee of a specific Pokémon, rare item, or fixed amount for every party.

Limits, Privacy, and Common Problems

Because Party Play is intended for nearby group activity, it is not a way to join strangers from anywhere or bypass the game’s location and account requirements. Only share a join code with people you intend to play with. A code or QR image can let someone enter the session if they meet the game’s requirements, so avoid posting it publicly.

  • Party option missing: Check the Trainer profile’s Party tab, update the app, and review any eligibility information shown by the game.
  • Code will not work: Confirm it has not expired or been replaced, and have the host generate or display a current code.
  • Players do not appear nearby: Move closer together, check connectivity, and make sure each person has actually joined the same session.
  • Challenge progress seems stuck: Re-read the objective. Actions that look similar may not count if they do not match its exact wording; allow the app time to update and check again.
  • Party ends unexpectedly: The session has a time limit. Start another party if the feature allows it, then select a challenge again.

As with any location-based game, play in a place where you can pay attention to your surroundings. Do not walk while staring at the screen, and do not enter unsafe or restricted areas to reach a stop or encounter. Plan the route and group meet-up before focusing on the game.

Party Play Compared With Other Group Features

Party Play is best understood as an activity layer over normal Pokémon GO play. Friends can be in the same party without that alone completing a raid, and being in a raid lobby does not automatically mean the group has selected a Party Challenge. A party can help with eligible raids through Party Power, while raid participation and raid rewards follow their own rules.

Likewise, the party’s shared challenge is different from individual research. A member may have personal field research or other goals that do not match the party objective. If the group wants progress for both, choose actions that satisfy both where possible, then verify each screen. This distinction explains why a player might see party progress but not the expected personal-research progress, or vice versa.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people can join a Pokémon GO Party?
A party can have up to four Trainers, including the host. Members need to meet the game’s requirements and be close enough to join.

Do all players get the same Party Play rewards?
The game presents rewards for completing the selected challenge, but players should check the completion screen for the actual result. Do not assume every challenge or event offers an identical reward.

Does Party Play give bonus XP or guaranteed rare Pokémon?
Party Play does not promise a particular rare Pokémon or a universal bonus for every session. Rewards depend on the challenge and any relevant current event or game rules.

How does Party Power work in raids?
When the feature is available, party members’ Fast Attacks charge Party Power. Activating it boosts a subsequent Charged Attack; it is a temporary raid benefit, not a general catch bonus.

Can I use Party Play with friends who are far away?
No. The feature is intended for nearby Trainers, and joining is subject to the proximity and eligibility requirements shown in the game.
