Raid Shadow Legends Chimera: Forms, Trials & Team Choices

Card No. 06·31987 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

This guide explains how the Chimera boss in Raid: Shadow Legends works, covering its four forms, the trials system, and how to build a team for each. You select a difficulty, fight through rounds of trials, and then face the Chimera in its chosen form; your score determines the rewards you earn.

What Is the Chimera?

The Chimera is a clan boss introduced in Raid: Shadow Legends in late 2024. Unlike the Demon Lord or Hydra, the Chimera changes form each week and requires you to complete a series of trials before you can damage it. It is fought by a full clan, and your personal and clan scores contribute to weekly rewards. The boss has four distinct forms, each with its own mechanics, and the form you face rotates weekly.

The Four Chimera Forms

Each form has a unique passive skill and a set of active abilities that change how you approach the fight. The forms are:

  • Lifestealer: Heals itself based on damage dealt, and its passive reduces healing on your champions. Bring heal reduction and burst damage to counter its sustain.
  • Warlord: Places increased buffs on itself and removes buffs from your team. Strip its buffs and use buffs that cannot be removed (like unkillable) to survive.
  • Bruiser: Gains attack and defense as it loses health, and its attacks hit harder as the fight goes on. Use damage mitigation and try to kill it before it ramps up too much.
  • Scourge: Applies poisons and debuffs that spread to your whole team. Bring cleanse and debuff immunity to avoid being overwhelmed.

How Trials Work

Before you can damage the Chimera, you must complete a set of trials—essentially mini-objectives that change each week. These trials are shared across the clan, and each completed trial gives you a damage multiplier against the boss. The trials are typically things like:

  • Deal a certain amount of damage with a specific affinity.
  • Land a certain number of debuffs (e.g., poison, decrease defense).
  • Use a specific number of skills (e.g., 50 skills from a certain faction).
  • Kill a certain number of adds (the Chimera summons minions during the fight).

Each trial you complete adds a percentage to your clan’s damage multiplier, up to a cap. The higher the difficulty, the more trials you need to complete to reach the cap. Your personal score is based on the damage you deal after the multiplier is applied.

Team Choices by Form

Your team composition should change based on the Chimera’s form and the trials you need to complete. Here are general guidelines for each form:

  • Lifestealer: Bring champions with heal reduction (e.g., Uugo, Stag Knight) and high single-target damage. Avoid relying on poisons, as the boss heals more from them.
  • Warlord: Use buff strippers (e.g., Madame Serris, Rae) and champions that can place block buffs. Unkillable or block damage teams work well because the boss removes buffs but not those.
  • Bruiser: Use champions with defense-based damage (e.g., Iron Brago, Rhazin) and increase defense buffs. The boss’s attack increases as it loses health, so you need to survive its later hits.
  • Scourge: Bring cleansers (e.g., Doompriest, Reliquary Tender) and champions with immunity to debuffs. Poison removal is also helpful.

Also consider the trials: if a trial asks for a specific affinity, you may need to adjust your team to include that affinity even if it’s not optimal for the form.

Scoring and Rewards

Your score is determined by the damage you deal to the Chimera after the clan’s trial multiplier is applied. Higher difficulties give better base rewards, but you also need to complete more trials to get the full multiplier. Rewards include materials for the new Perception and Fatal artifacts, as well as clan shop currency. The clan’s total score unlocks chests at the end of the week, similar to other clan bosses.

Common Mistakes and Misconceptions

One common mistake is ignoring the trials and just focusing on damage. If your clan doesn’t complete trials, your damage is severely reduced, so you should build your team to complete the trials even if it means lower raw damage. Another misconception is that you need a single team for all forms—actually, you can change your team each week based on the form and trials. Also, note that the Chimera’s form changes weekly, so a team that worked last week may not work this week.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does the Chimera form change?

The form changes weekly, rotating through the four forms. The exact order is not announced, but it is consistent for all players in a given week.

Can I use the same team for all difficulties?

No, higher difficulties have more trials and the boss has more health and damage. You may need to adjust your team to survive and complete trials, especially on Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare.

Do trials reset each week?

Yes, trials reset weekly along with the boss form. You need to complete them again each week to get the damage multiplier.

What is the best affinity for the Chimera?

There is no single best affinity; it depends on the form and trials. For example, magic champions are good against the force-affinity Lifestealer, but you might need spirit champions for a trial. Check the current trials and build accordingly.

Is the Chimera harder than the Hydra?

It’s a different kind of challenge. The Hydra requires managing heads and debuffs, while the Chimera requires completing trials and adapting to its form. Many players find the Chimera more complex because of the trial system.
