The Realme Watch was officially launched in India on May 25, 2020, alongside the Realme Narzo 10 series. It was the brand’s first dedicated smartwatch, priced at ₹3,999, and it quickly became one of the most popular budget fitness trackers in the country.
Formula
The calculator above works out your average running or walking pace. You enter the total time taken and the distance covered, and it returns your pace in minutes per kilometer and your speed in kilometers per hour. The formulas are:
- Pace (min/km) = Total time (minutes) ÷ Distance (km)
- Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) ÷ (Total time (minutes) ÷ 60)
Where t is time in minutes and d is distance in kilometers. Pace tells you how long it takes to cover one kilometer; speed tells you how many kilometers you cover in one hour.
Worked Example
Using the default values: you run 10 km in 50 minutes.
- Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
- Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h
So your average pace is 5 minutes per kilometer, and your average speed is 12 km/h.
Why the Realme Watch Launch Mattered
When Realme entered the smartwatch segment in India, the market was dominated by brands like Xiaomi, Amazfit, and Samsung. The Realme Watch undercut most competitors by offering a 1.4-inch color touchscreen, heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen (SpO2) tracking, and a claimed 15-day battery life for under ₹4,000. This aggressive pricing forced other budget brands to lower their prices and add more features, making smartwatches accessible to a much wider audience.
The launch also signaled Realme’s broader ambition to build an ecosystem of connected devices. The company already sold smartphones, earbuds, and fitness bands, and the watch filled a gap between its simple band and premium offerings.
Key Features at Launch
- Display: 1.4-inch TFT LCD touchscreen with 320×320 resolution
- Health tracking: Heart rate, SpO2, sleep, and stress monitoring
- Sports modes: 14 activity modes including walking, running, cycling, and yoga
- Battery: 390 mAh, claimed 15 days of typical use, 20 days in standby
- Water resistance: IP68 (splash and sweat proof, not for swimming)
- Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0, works with the Realme Link app (Android and iOS)
- Notifications: Call, SMS, and app alerts with vibration
How It Works and What to Expect
The Realme Watch pairs with your smartphone via Bluetooth and the Realme Link app. You set up your profile (age, height, weight, gender), and the watch uses an optical sensor on the back to measure heart rate and SpO2. For activity tracking, it uses an accelerometer to count steps and detect movement. The watch does not have built-in GPS, so when you run outdoors, it relies on your phone’s GPS to map your route and calculate distance. Without the phone, the watch can still count steps and estimate distance based on stride length, but accuracy is lower.
Battery life depends heavily on usage. With continuous heart-rate monitoring and frequent notifications, you might get 7–10 days. If you disable continuous monitoring and only use it for workouts, it can last closer to the claimed 15 days. Charging uses a proprietary magnetic cradle, which takes about 2 hours to fully charge.
How to Choose Between the Realme Watch and Other Budget Watches
When deciding whether the Realme Watch (or its successors) is right for you, consider these factors:
- GPS: If you run or cycle outdoors without your phone, you need a watch with built-in GPS. The Realme Watch lacks it; models like the Amazfit Bip series include it at a similar price.
- Display type: The Realme Watch uses a TFT LCD, which is less bright and less power-efficient than AMOLED. If you want a vivid always-on display, look for AMOLED options.
- App ecosystem: The Realme Link app is functional but less polished than Xiaomi’s Mi Fitness or Amazfit’s Zepp app. Check if the app supports your phone and has the features you need.
- Water resistance: IP68 means it can handle rain and sweat but not swimming. If you want to track laps, choose a 5ATM-rated watch.
- Battery life: The Realme Watch’s 15-day claim is realistic for light use. If you want 30+ days, look at Amazfit’s Bip series.
Common Problems and How to Solve Them
Users have reported a few recurring issues with the Realme Watch:
- Bluetooth disconnection: The watch often disconnects from the phone when the Realme Link app is closed in the background. Fix: Disable battery optimization for the app and keep it running in the background.
- Inaccurate heart rate during workouts: The optical sensor can struggle with dark skin, tattoos, or intense movement. Fix: Wear the watch snugly above the wrist bone, and clean the sensor before use.
- SpO2 measurement fails: The watch requires you to stay still for about 30 seconds. If it fails, rest your arm on a flat surface and try again.
- Notifications not showing: Ensure the Realme Link app has notification access and that you’ve enabled the specific apps you want.
Realme Watch vs. Realme Band vs. Realme Watch 2
Realme’s product line can be confusing. The original Realme Watch was followed by the Realme Band (a smaller fitness band) and later the Realme Watch 2, which added a larger display, more sports modes, and improved sensors. The Watch 2 also kept the same price point, making the original obsolete. If you’re considering a used or old-stock Realme Watch, check the price against the Watch 2; the newer model is usually worth the small premium.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Realme Watch still worth buying in 2024?
Probably not. The original Realme Watch is outdated, with no GPS, a low-resolution LCD, and limited app support. For the same price, you can find newer watches with AMOLED displays, GPS, and better sensors. If you’re on a tight budget, consider the Realme Watch 2, which is still sold in some markets, or look at alternatives from Amazfit and Xiaomi.
Does the Realme Watch have built-in GPS?
No, the original Realme Watch does not have built-in GPS. It uses your phone’s GPS when you start an outdoor workout from the Realme Link app. If you want to run without your phone, you need a watch with standalone GPS.
Can I use the Realme Watch with an iPhone?
Yes, the Realme Link app is available on iOS, and the watch can pair with iPhones. However, some features like message quick replies or calling may not work as seamlessly as on Android, and the app may have fewer features on iOS.
How accurate is the Realme Watch’s heart rate monitor?
In general, the heart rate sensor is reasonably accurate for resting heart rate and moderate activity, but it can be less accurate during high-intensity interval training or weightlifting. It’s not a medical device, so use it for fitness tracking, not for health diagnosis.
Can I swim with the Realme Watch?
No, the Realme Watch is rated IP68, which means it can withstand splashes, rain, and sweat, but it is not designed for swimming or showering. Submerging it in water can damage the device.
How do I update the Realme Watch firmware?
Firmware updates are delivered through the Realme Link app. When an update is available, you’ll get a notification in the app. Make sure the watch is charged above 30% and keep the phone nearby during the update process.
