Recover Photos, Videos and Audio from an LG Phone

Card No. 06·25391 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

You may be able to recover photos, videos, and audio files from an LG phone using its Trash folders, a backup, or a copy on an SD card or computer. If files were permanently deleted from the phone’s internal storage and no backup exists, recovery may not be possible; stop using the phone and avoid apps that promise guaranteed results.

Start by checking where the files went

Before installing recovery software, check whether the files are hidden, moved, or waiting in a deleted-items folder. The exact apps and menu names vary by LG model, Android version, and the gallery or file manager you use.

  • Gallery: Open the Gallery app and look for a Trash, Bin, or Recently deleted folder in its menus or albums. If the file is there, select it and choose Restore. Deleted items may be removed automatically after a limited period; the app should show its own retention details.
  • Google Photos: Check Collections or Library and then Trash (the layout can vary). Select the item and tap Restore if it is still available. Google Photos’ Trash is separate from the LG Gallery’s Trash.
  • File manager: Open the phone’s Files or file-management app and inspect its Trash, if provided. Search folders such as DCIM, Pictures, Movies, Music, Recordings, and Download; a file may have been moved rather than erased.
  • Cloud services: Check any cloud account or app that may have synced the files, including its deleted-items area. Confirm you are signed into the account used when the files existed.

If the files are present in a backup or cloud library, download or restore them to a safe location. Avoid emptying any Trash folder until you have confirmed the recovered copies open correctly.

Recover from an SD card

If the missing files were stored on a removable microSD card, recovery may be more feasible than recovery from internal phone storage. Stop taking photos, recording video, downloading files, or saving anything to that card: new data can overwrite the deleted content.

  1. Power off the phone before removing the card, if the device permits safe removal that way. Follow the phone’s instructions for handling the card.
  2. Use a card reader to connect it to a computer. Do not format the card if the computer asks you to do so.
  3. Use reputable data-recovery software that supports the card’s file system. Scan the card, preview results where available, and save recovered files to the computer or a different drive—not back to the same card.
  4. Check recovered photos, videos, and audio by opening them. A scan can find file fragments or damaged files, so a listed result is not always a complete, playable recovery.

Some LG phones allow an SD card to be adopted as internal storage, encrypting or integrating it with the phone. In that case, removing it and scanning it on another device may not work; the original phone and its access credentials may be necessary. Do not reset or replace the phone before checking whether the card is encrypted or adopted storage.

Check backups and synced copies

A backup is often the most reliable path when a file is gone from the phone. Look in the services and computers you actually used rather than assuming that every LG phone automatically saved every media file to the cloud.

  • Google Photos or another photo service: Check the account, upload status, and Trash. A file that never finished uploading will not be available online.
  • Google device backup: Android device backups can include selected data, but they should not be treated as a guaranteed archive of every photo, video, recording, or download. Review what the backup includes before restoring.
  • Computer copies: Search computers, external drives, and folders used for manual transfers. Check imported-photo libraries and backups from the period when the files were on the phone.
  • Messaging and email: If you sent or received the media, check the original conversation, attachments, or saved downloads. The copy may be compressed or lower quality than the original.

Restoring a full device backup can replace or alter current data, depending on the service and restore method. Read the prompts carefully, preserve current files first, and avoid factory-resetting the phone merely to try a restore unless you understand what will be erased.

What changes the chances of recovery?

Deleted files are not necessarily erased instantly at the moment you tap Delete. On storage that can be rewritten, space may be marked available and reused later. Continued use—recording a video, installing an app, or downloading updates—can reduce the chance that old data remains intact.

Modern Android phones commonly use encryption and storage protections. These make recovery from internal storage difficult, especially when files were permanently deleted, the phone was reset, or the storage has been overwritten. Connecting a phone to a computer and browsing its folders generally reveals accessible files; it does not provide a complete, low-level scan of deleted internal data.

Audio deserves a separate check: voice recordings may be saved in a recorder app’s own folder or account, not in Gallery. Look in the recorder app, its file list, and folders such as Recordings or Audio. Also check whether a recording was shared to a messaging app or backed up independently.

Choose a safe recovery approach

Use the least risky option first: inspect Trash, check cloud copies, then look for computer backups. If the missing media is on a removable card, stop using it and scan a copy or the card itself with reputable software. For valuable files on internal storage, a professional data-recovery provider may be worth discussing, but ask about the likelihood of recovery, privacy practices, and whether examination could change the data. No provider can promise recovery in every case.

Be cautious of apps or websites claiming they can recover everything with one tap, especially if they require payment before showing results, request broad permissions, or ask you to install unknown software. Do not share account passwords or unlock codes with an untrusted service. Rooting, unlocking the bootloader, factory resetting, or repeatedly installing recovery apps can alter data and may make recovery harder; these actions are not a safe first step.

Prevent future loss

Once you recover what you can, make at least one separate copy of important media. Enable automatic photo backup only after confirming which account and folders are included, and periodically verify that recent items appear in the backup. For especially important files, keep another copy on a computer or external drive. A sync service can also sync deletions, so a separate backup is useful protection against accidental removal from a synced library.

Before deleting files, confirm whether the action removes them only from the phone or also from synced devices and cloud storage. Keep enough free storage for backups to complete, and occasionally open a few backed-up files to confirm they are readable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I recover permanently deleted photos from an LG phone?
Possibly, if a Trash folder, cloud copy, computer backup, or SD-card copy exists. Permanently deleted files from internal storage may be unrecoverable, particularly after continued use or a reset.

Where is the Recycle Bin on an LG phone?
There is no single location on every LG model. Check the Gallery and file-management apps for Trash, Bin, or Recently deleted, and check Google Photos separately.

Can a computer recover deleted files from LG internal storage?
Usually, connecting the phone exposes accessible files rather than deleted internal data. Android encryption and storage protections can prevent ordinary computer tools from recovering permanently deleted files.

Can I recover deleted voice recordings?
Check the recording app, its Trash or Recently deleted area, audio folders, cloud backup, and any computer or message where the recording was shared. Recovery depends on where it was stored and whether a copy remains.

Should I keep using my LG phone after deleting files?
If the files matter, minimize use and do not install recovery apps or record new media. New data can overwrite recoverable content; first check backups and Trash folders.
