Card No. 06·21347 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

The calculator on this card is switched off while it is checked. The formula is below, and the worked example shows how to do the sum by hand.

To remove the Apple Music trial banner from your iPhone or iPad, open the Music app, tap the banner, and choose “Not Now” or “Decline”. If it persists, force-quit the Music app, restart your device, or check that your Apple Music subscription is active and properly synced. This article explains why the banner appears and walks through every fix that actually works.

Why the Banner Appears

The Apple Music trial banner is a promotional prompt that appears when Apple detects that you do not have an active Apple Music subscription. It typically shows up after a new iOS update, after you sign out of your Apple ID, or when your free trial has ended but you haven’t resubscribed. Apple’s system assumes you might want to start a new trial, so it displays the banner in the “Listen Now” tab and sometimes in the “Browse” tab.

If you previously had a free trial and it expired, the banner may reappear because Apple’s servers still have your account flagged as eligible for another trial offer. In some cases, the banner is simply a glitch caused by a temporary mismatch between your device’s local settings and your Apple ID account status.

Fix 1: Tap the Banner and Decline

The most direct way to remove the banner is to interact with it:

  1. Open the Music app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the banner that says “Try Apple Music” or “Get 6 Months of Apple Music”.
  3. On the next screen, look for a small “Not Now” link in the corner, or scroll to the bottom and tap “Decline” or “Maybe Later”.
  4. Return to the Listen Now tab – the banner should be gone.

This works because Apple’s system registers your choice and stops showing the prompt for a while. If you don’t see a decline option, force-close the Music app and try again.

Fix 2: Force-Quit and Restart the Music App

Sometimes the banner is just a temporary UI glitch. Force-quitting the app clears its memory and reloads the interface:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause to open the App Switcher (on iPhones with Face ID). On older iPhones, double-click the Home button.
  2. Find the Music app card and swipe it up to close it.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then reopen the Music app.

If the banner still appears, restart your iPhone by holding the power button and volume button (or just the power button on older models) until the “slide to power off” appears. Slide to turn off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Fix 3: Check Your Apple Music Subscription Status

The banner often shows because your device thinks you have no subscription, even if you do. Verify your subscription status:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
  3. Look for Apple Music in the list. If it shows “Active”, your subscription is fine.
  4. If it shows “Expired” or nothing, you need to resubscribe to remove the banner permanently.

If your subscription is active but the banner persists, sign out of your Apple ID and sign back in:

  1. Go to Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Sign Out.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Go back to Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Sign In with your Apple ID.

This forces your device to re-check your subscription with Apple’s servers, which usually clears the banner.

Fix 4: Disable Automatic Trial Offers (If Eligible)

If you are actually eligible for a free trial (for example, you just bought a new iPhone or AirPods), the banner will keep appearing until you either start the trial or explicitly decline it. To decline permanently:

  1. Tap the banner to open the offer page.
  2. Scroll down and tap “Not Now” or “Decline” – the exact wording varies by iOS version.
  3. Confirm your choice if prompted.

Once declined, Apple will not show the offer again for that device. If you later want to start the trial, you can find the offer in the Music app’s “Listen Now” tab or in the App Store’s Arcade/Music sections.

Fix 5: Update iOS and Reset Music Settings

Outdated iOS versions can cause display bugs. Check for updates:

  1. Go to Settings → General → Software Update.
  2. If an update is available, download and install it.

If the banner remains after updating, reset the Music app’s settings without deleting your library:

  1. Go to Settings → Music.
  2. Toggle “Show Apple Music” off, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
  3. This refreshes the app’s configuration and often clears stale promotional banners.

Fix 6: Contact Apple Support (Last Resort)

If none of the above works, the banner might be tied to an issue with your Apple ID account that requires server-side help. Contact Apple Support via the Apple Support app or getsupport.apple.com. Explain that the trial banner persists despite having an active subscription (if you do) or that you have declined it multiple times. Support can check your account and remove the promotional flag.

Note: Apple Support will not remove the banner if you are genuinely eligible for a trial and have never declined it – you must decline it first (Fix 4).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the Apple Music banner keep coming back after I dismiss it?

The banner reappears if your device hasn’t synced your dismissal with Apple’s servers. Signing out and back into your Apple ID (Fix 3) usually forces the sync. If you don’t have an active subscription, the banner will return every few weeks because Apple periodically re-prompts eligible users.

Will the banner go away if I just ignore it?

No, ignoring it won’t make it disappear permanently. It will stay on the Listen Now tab until you tap it and choose “Not Now” or “Decline”. After you decline, it typically stays hidden for months, but may reappear after a major iOS update or if your subscription status changes.

Does the banner appear on Mac or Android?

Yes, the Apple Music trial banner can appear in the Music app on macOS and in the Apple Music app on Android. The same fixes apply: tap the banner and decline, check your subscription status, and sign out/in of your Apple ID. On Mac, you can also try quitting and reopening the Music app.

Can I remove the banner without an Apple Music subscription?

Yes, you can decline the trial offer without subscribing. Tap the banner, then choose “Not Now” or “Maybe Later”. This removes the banner while keeping your Apple ID active. You can still use the Music app to play purchased songs or music synced from your computer.

Why is the banner showing even though I have a paid subscription?

This usually happens after an iOS update or a temporary server glitch. First, check your subscription status in Settings (Fix 3). If it shows active, sign out and back into your Apple ID. If that doesn’t work, restart your device or update iOS. Rarely, you may need to contact Apple Support if the banner persists for more than a week.
