The Division 2 Crossplay, Solo, Endgame & Servers

Card No. 06·40625 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

The Division 2 supports crossplay between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, but not cross-save or cross-progression, and solo players can access nearly all endgame content except for 8-player raids. You play on shared servers with matchmaking by platform group, and the endgame loop revolves around SHD levels, Control Points, and seasonal content that scales to your group size.

Crossplay: What Actually Works

Crossplay in The Division 2 was added in a December 2022 update. It works between PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. When you enable it in the settings, you will matchmake with players from all of those platforms. There is no crossplay between the PC version on Ubisoft Connect and the PC version on Steam because they use the same Ubisoft Connect backend—they are already the same player pool.

What crossplay does not include is cross-save or cross-progression. Your character, gear, and progress are tied to the platform you started on. If you switch from Xbox to PC, you start over. There is no way to transfer a character between platform families, and Ubisoft has not announced any plan to add it.

To turn crossplay on or off, go to Settings > Gameplay > Crossplay. You can choose to play only with your platform group if you prefer, which can help reduce cheating concerns on PC. Note that the game does not have crossplay with Stadia (which shut down) or with the cloud streaming versions.

Solo Play: What You Can Do Alone

You can play the entire main campaign solo, including all main missions and side missions. Enemy health and damage scale with the number of players in your group, so a solo player faces fewer and weaker enemies than a full squad. The game does not force multiplayer at any point in the story.

In the endgame, solo players can do almost everything:

  • All main missions on any difficulty (Normal, Hard, Challenging, Heroic)
  • Control Points, which are the core open-world activity
  • Bounties and hostage rescues
  • The Summit, a 100-floor skyscraper mode with scaling difficulty
  • Countdown (a 8-player matchmade activity) if you queue with others, but it is not solo-able
  • Seasonal manhunts and global events

The only content that requires a group is the two 8-player raids: Dark Hours and Operation Iron Horse. They have no matchmaking, so you must use the official LFG (Looking for Group) channels or third-party discords. The raids also have a Discovery difficulty that is easier but still requires 8 players.

Solo players will find that Heroic difficulty is challenging but doable with a well-built loadout. Legendary difficulty (available on three missions) is tuned for 4-player groups and is extremely hard solo, though some skilled players have completed it with specific builds.

Endgame: The Loop and Progression

After you finish the main campaign (level 40 with the Warlords of New York expansion, or level 30 without it), you enter the endgame. The core loop is:

  1. Complete activities to earn SHD levels (infinite post-level-40 progression)
  2. Farm gear from missions, Control Points, and the Summit
  3. Optimize your build with recalibration and expertise
  4. Participate in seasonal content, which adds a new manhunt target and modifiers

Your SHD level gives you permanent stat boosts (up to 1000 points in each of the three categories) and is shared across all characters on your account. Expertise is a separate system that increases the damage or armor of your gear and weapons, requiring materials and XP.

Seasonal content runs for about 12 weeks. Each season has a free track and a premium track (with the season pass). The free track includes gear, cosmetics, and currency. The manhunt is a series of targets that culminates in a final boss fight; completing it unlocks a new skill variant or exotic item.

The endgame also includes global events (like Polarity or Golden Bullet) that modify gameplay and reward stars you can spend on caches. There is no true “season pass that locks core content—you can play all activities without paying, but the premium track gives extra cosmetics and some caches.

Servers and Connection

The Division 2 uses dedicated servers for all PvE and PvP activities. There is no peer-to-peer hosting. This means your game continues even if the group leader leaves, and you will not experience host migration. The servers are regional—you connect to the closest data center (typically in North America, Europe, Asia, or Australia) based on your location.

You can see your ping in the settings or by enabling the network info overlay. The game uses a mix of TCP and UDP, and a stable wired connection is recommended. If you experience lag or disconnects, common fixes include:

  • Checking your NAT type (open is best)
  • Port forwarding (Ubisoft lists specific ports for the game)
  • Using a VPN if your ISP routes poorly
  • Disabling crossplay if you match with distant players

Server maintenance happens weekly on Tuesdays (typically 3-5 AM UTC), and the game goes down for about an hour. There is no scheduled downtime for seasonal updates, but they can take longer. The servers are generally stable, but major expansions have seen queue times due to high demand.

Platform Differences and Performance

PC players get uncapped frame rates, ultrawide support, and higher graphical settings. Xbox Series X and PS5 run at 60 FPS with a performance mode, while Xbox One and PS4 run at 30 FPS with lower resolution. The game supports cross-gen play, so Xbox One and Series X players are in the same pool.

There is no crossplay between PC and consoles for the Dark Zone? Actually, there is—crossplay applies to all modes, including the Dark Zone and Conflict (PvP). However, PC players have an advantage with mouse and keyboard, so console players may want to disable crossplay if they find PC opponents too strong. The game does not have input-based matchmaking.

Common Misconceptions and Troubleshooting

A common misconception is that you need the Warlords of New York expansion to play endgame. You do not—the base game has an endgame at level 30 with World Tiers, but it is considered outdated. The expansion raises the level cap to 40 and is required for the current seasonal content and SHD levels. If you do not own it, you will be in a separate matchmaking pool from level 40 players.

Another issue is that crossplay is not enabled by default for all platforms. You must opt in. If you cannot match with a friend on another platform, check that both of you have crossplay enabled and that you are not in a group with someone who has it disabled. Also, the game does not support cross-platform voice chat—you need a third-party app like Discord.

If you get “Delta errors (disconnects), it is usually a network issue. Restart your router, check your firewall, and ensure your ISP is not blocking the game’s ports. If you are on a campus or office network, you may need to ask the admin to allow the game.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play The Division 2 solo in the endgame?

Yes, you can play almost all endgame content solo, including missions on Heroic difficulty, Control Points, The Summit, and seasonal manhunts. The only exceptions are the two 8-player raids, which require a group, and Countdown, which is matchmade but not solo-able.

Does The Division 2 have cross-save?

No. Cross-save and cross-progression are not supported. Your character and progress are locked to the platform you started on. If you switch platforms, you must start a new character.

Is crossplay between PC and console in The Division 2?

Yes, crossplay is available between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. It covers all game modes including PvE, PvP, and the Dark Zone. You can enable or disable it in the settings.

Do I need the Warlords of New York expansion for endgame?

For the current endgame (level 40, SHD levels, seasons), yes. The base game’s endgame at level 30 is still playable but is not the active content. The expansion is required to participate in seasonal manhunts and the latest gear.

How many players can play together in a group?

Standard groups are up to 4 players. Raids require 8 players, and Countdown is an 8-player activity. The open world and missions scale for 1-4 players.

Are the servers region-locked?

Not strictly, but matchmaking prefers low-ping regions. You can play with friends on other continents, but you will all experience higher latency. There is no region selector in the game; it uses your IP address to determine the closest server.
