The Forge’s Crimson Sakura expansion does not overhaul Island 3’s economy, and it does not add a new island. Instead, it introduces a new resource (Crimson Petals), a new NPC faction (the Sakura Syndicate), and a rebalanced trading system that indirectly affects Island 3’s market by adding new supply chains and quest rewards.

Formula

The calculator above is a generic pace/speed converter (not specific to the game) to illustrate how in-game time/distance mechanics might be modeled. The average pace is finish time divided by distance, and average speed is distance divided by time in hours. In the game, Crimson Sakura adds a similar “travel time vs. reward” trade-off for new routes.

Worked Example

Using the default values: finish time = 50 minutes, distance = 10 km. Pace = 50 / 10 = 5.0 min/km. Speed = 10 / (50/60) = 12.0 km/h. This matches the calculator output.

Background: What Crimson Sakura Actually Adds

The Crimson Sakura expansion, released as a major content update, focuses on the southern archipelago region. It adds a new zone called the “Blossom Isles” – but that’s a sub-zone, not a separate island in the game’s map selection. The main island count remains at 7 (Islands 1-7). The expansion adds three new sub-areas within Island 3’s existing map: the Petal Fields, the Abandoned Mill, and the Syndicate Hideout.

Economy Changes: Not an Overhaul, but a Shift

Island 3’s economy was previously centered on fishing and basic crafting. Crimson Sakura introduces Crimson Petals, a new currency-like resource obtained from the new sub-areas. Players can trade petals with the Sakura Syndicate for exclusive blueprints and gear. This creates a parallel economy that runs alongside the existing gold-based system. The expansion also rebalances the sell prices of certain fish and ores, but it does not replace the core trading mechanics.

How the New Resource Works

Crimson Petals are earned by completing Syndicate quests, defeating new enemies (like the Blossom Golem), and harvesting from special trees in the Petal Fields. They are used to purchase:

  • Unique weapons with elemental damage
  • Cosmetic armor sets
  • Access to the Syndicate Hideout’s crafting station

Petals are not tradable between players, so they function as a personal progression currency rather than a market commodity.

Choosing What to Prioritize

If you’re a returning player, focus on the Syndicate questline first to unlock the Hideout. If you’re a new player, the expansion’s content is level-gated (recommended level 30+), so you’ll need to progress through Island 3’s main story before accessing it. The petal economy is designed for end-game players, but casual players can still collect petals slowly for cosmetic rewards.

Common Problems and Misconceptions

A frequent misconception is that the expansion “overhauls” the economy, but it actually just adds a new layer. Another issue: some players report that the Petal Fields are too crowded, making harvesting inefficient. The development team has not announced any changes to that. Also, the Abandoned Mill area has a known bug where the final boss sometimes doesn’t spawn – restarting the instance usually fixes it.

Comparison to Other Expansions

Compared to the previous “Frostbound” expansion, which added a whole new island (Island 7), Crimson Sakura is smaller in scope. Frostbound introduced a new biome and a new resource (Frost Shards) that was traded on the global market. Crimson Sakura’s petals are personal, so it feels less impactful to the overall player-driven economy. However, the Syndicate’s blueprints are considered more powerful than Frostbound’s gear, making it a worthwhile grind for combat-focused players.

Costs and Requirements

The expansion is free to all players who own the base game. There is no premium battle pass. The main cost is time: completing the Syndicate questline takes roughly 10-15 hours. The new gear requires rare materials from the Petal Fields, which can be farmed, but the drop rates are low (around 5% for the rarest petal type).

Safety and Fair Play

No real-world safety concerns apply, but in-game, be aware that the Petal Fields is a PvP-enabled zone on PvP servers. If you’re not interested in PvP, play on a PvE server. Also, the expansion’s new enemies have a poison attack that can drain health quickly – bring antidotes.

Alternatives to the New Content

If you don’t want to engage with the petal economy, you can still enjoy the expansion’s main story and the new cosmetic items that drop from regular enemies. The Abandoned Mill also has a few puzzles that reward gold and standard crafting materials, so it’s worth exploring even if you skip the Syndicate grind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Crimson Sakura add a new island? No, it adds sub-areas to Island 3, but the total island count stays at 7.

Is Island 3’s economy completely changed? No, the existing gold-based economy remains; the expansion adds a parallel petal-based system.

Can I trade Crimson Petals with other players? No, they are bound to your character.

What level should I be to start the expansion? The recommended level is 30+, but you can enter the Petal Fields at level 25 with a group.

Will the expansion affect the global market prices? Indirectly, yes – the new gear is powerful, so demand for certain crafting materials may rise, but the core market is unchanged.
