The Wolf Among Us is not currently included in any PlayStation Plus tier, nor is it offered at a special PS Plus discount on the PlayStation Store. You can buy the game at its standard price, and occasionally it goes on sale for everyone, but there is no PS Plus-specific deal or free access.
Background: The Game and Its Editions
The Wolf Among Us is a narrative adventure game developed by Telltale Games, based on the Fables comic book series by Bill Willingham. It follows Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown, as he investigates a series of murders among fairy-tale characters living in secret in New York City. The game was originally released in five episodes between 2013 and 2014, and it received a remastered version titled The Wolf Among Us in 2021 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, with improved visuals and performance.
There is also a sequel, The Wolf Among Us 2, which has been in development for several years. The remastered version is the one most players are looking for on modern consoles, and it is the version you will find on the PlayStation Store.
How PlayStation Plus Works
PlayStation Plus is a subscription service with three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. The Essential tier gives you online multiplayer access and two or three free games each month. The Extra and Premium tiers add a catalog of games you can download and play as long as your subscription is active, similar to Xbox Game Pass.
Games are added to and removed from the Extra/Premium catalog on a rotating basis. The monthly Essential games are yours to keep only while you have an active subscription, but if you add them to your library during the month they are offered, you can download them anytime as long as you remain a subscriber.
The Wolf Among Us has not been part of the monthly Essential lineup, and it has not been listed in the Extra or Premium catalog since the revamped tiers launched in 2022. That could change in the future, but as of now, there is no indication it will be added soon.
Is There a PS Plus Discount?
PlayStation Plus members do not automatically get a discount on all games. Occasionally, Sony runs a “PS Plus exclusive sale where subscribers get a slightly larger discount than non-members on select titles. The Wolf Among Us has been included in some of those sales in the past, but it is not currently discounted for PS Plus members.
To check if a discount is active, you can visit the PlayStation Store page for the game. If there is a PS Plus price, it will be shown next to the regular price. You must be signed in with your PlayStation Plus account to see the member price. If you do not see a second price, there is no PS Plus discount at that moment.
How to Buy the Game
If you want to play The Wolf Among Us Remastered on PlayStation, you can buy it directly from the PlayStation Store. It is also available on other platforms, but this article focuses on the PlayStation version.
- Go to the PlayStation Store on your console or via the web store.
- Search for “The Wolf Among Us. Make sure you select the remastered version (it is labeled as such, and it is the only version available for PS4/PS5).
- Check the price. It is a full game, not a subscription title.
- If you want a discount, add it to your wishlist and wait for a sale. Sales happen regularly, but there is no set schedule.
You can also look for physical copies at retailers, but those may be harder to find and may not include the remastered upgrades if they are the original 2013 release.
Common Problems and Misconceptions
One common misconception is that The Wolf Among Us was ever free on PS Plus. It was not. Some players confuse it with other Telltale games that have been offered, like The Walking Dead, which was a PS Plus monthly game in 2013. But The Wolf Among Us has never been a free PS Plus title.
Another issue is that players sometimes buy the original 2013 version thinking it is the remaster. On the PlayStation Store, only the remastered version is sold for PS4/PS5. The original is not available for purchase digitally on PlayStation anymore, so that mistake is unlikely.
If you have a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscription, you might see the game in the catalog and think it is included. It is not. The catalog includes many Telltale games, but not this one. Always check the price before downloading.
Alternatives and Similar Games
If you are looking for a similar narrative adventure game and are willing to try something else, there are several options available on PlayStation Plus or at a low cost.
- The Walking Dead (Telltale) – This is often on sale and has been a PS Plus game in the past. It is a similar episodic adventure.
- Life is Strange – Available on PS Plus Extra/Premium in some regions. It is a choice-driven story game.
- Batman: The Telltale Series – Another Telltale game that is sometimes discounted.
- Heavy Rain – A PlayStation exclusive with a dark story and multiple endings.
These games are not the same as The Wolf Among Us, but they offer a comparable experience if you enjoy story-heavy games with choices that affect the outcome.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will The Wolf Among Us ever be added to PS Plus?
It is possible, but there is no announced plan. Sony adds and removes games from the Extra/Premium catalog regularly. If the game is ever added, it will be announced on the PlayStation Blog. You can also check the PS Plus section on your console to see if it appears.
Is The Wolf Among Us Remastered worth buying at full price?
That depends on your preference. The game is about 8–10 hours long, and it has a strong story and memorable characters. If you like narrative games, it is generally considered worth the price. If you are unsure, wait for a sale, as it frequently drops to around $5–$10.
Can I play the remastered version on PS4?
Yes, the remastered version is available on both PS4 and PS5. It runs at a higher resolution and frame rate on PS5, but it is fully playable on PS4.
Is The Wolf Among Us 2 coming to PS Plus?
There is no information about that. The sequel has not been released yet, and its release date has been delayed multiple times. It is unlikely to be on PS Plus at launch, but it could be added later.
Does PS Plus Essential give a discount on The Wolf Among Us?
Only during special PS Plus sales. There is no permanent discount for subscribers. If you see a “PS Plus price on the store page, that is the discount. Otherwise, you pay the regular price.
Can I get a refund if I buy it and then it becomes free on PS Plus?
PlayStation’s refund policy allows refunds within 14 days of purchase, but only if you have not downloaded or started streaming the game. If you download and play it, you cannot get a refund. If you buy it and it becomes free later, that is not a valid refund reason.
