Valorant Reyna Guide: Tips, Tricks, and Ability Use

Card No. 06·50366 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

Reyna is a self-sufficient duelist in Valorant who can heal or become untargetable after earning an elimination, making her strongest when she wins clean opening fights. To play her well, take deliberate duels, use Leer to disrupt defenders, and choose Devour or Dismiss according to what the next few seconds demand.

What Makes Reyna Different

Reyna’s kit is built around winning a fight and converting that win into another advantage. Unlike duelists with movement abilities that help them enter a site before getting a kill, Reyna’s signature options depend on Soul Orbs created when she eliminates an enemy. That makes her powerful in confident hands but less useful when she cannot secure the first elimination.

Her abilities are Leer, Devour, Dismiss, and the ultimate Empress. Leer can be used without a prior kill; Devour and Dismiss require a nearby Soul Orb. The key decision after an elimination is whether to restore health with Devour or escape danger with Dismiss. Neither choice is automatically correct.

Reyna is therefore not simply a character who should always rush or seek the highest number of kills. Her value comes from taking fights with a plan, using her abilities to improve the odds, and avoiding unnecessary exposure after winning.

How Reyna’s Abilities Work

  • Leer: Reyna sends out an ethereal eye that nearsights enemies who look at it. It can be destroyed, so opponents may shoot it rather than remain affected. Use it to complicate an angle, not as a guarantee that an enemy cannot fight back.
  • Devour: After a kill creates a Soul Orb, Reyna can consume it to rapidly restore health. Healing beyond her normal maximum can create temporary overheal, subject to the ability’s current rules. Devour is most useful when you have cover or enough time to recover before another opponent swings.
  • Dismiss: Reyna consumes a Soul Orb to become temporarily intangible and avoid being hit. This is an escape or repositioning tool, not a way to deal damage. Use it to leave a dangerous angle, cross exposed space, or avoid an immediate trade.
  • Empress: Her ultimate empowers her combat tempo and improves her ability to take successive fights. Its exact numerical values and some ability details can change with patches, so check the in-game ability descriptions for current specifics.

Reyna can use Devour or Dismiss only while the relevant Soul Orb is available. If an opponent is still alive, do not assume you can heal or escape after taking damage; first win the duel or create enough space to survive.

Taking Better First Duels

Before peeking, decide what you will do if you get a kill and what you will do if you do not. For example, if you hold a narrow lane with nearby cover, you might take a short peek, eliminate the first opponent, then Dismiss behind cover if a second defender is watching. If you have won the fight but are safe behind a wall, Devour may be the better choice before your team continues forward.

  • Use cover: Peek from positions that let you retreat quickly. A kill is less valuable if you remain exposed to a second opponent.
  • Keep your crosshair ready: Aim at likely enemy head height and common positions before exposing yourself. Reyna’s abilities support gunfights; they do not replace accurate aim.
  • Take one angle at a time: Avoid swinging into several opponents who can see you together. Ask a teammate to create pressure or clear another angle first.
  • Respect trades: An enemy teammate may immediately swing after hearing shots or seeing a teammate fall. Be ready to Dismiss, reposition, or let a teammate take the next contact.

A frequent mistake is treating every elimination as a reason to continue pushing. The first kill may have achieved the team’s goal by opening a route or forcing defenders to rotate. Check the minimap, listen for nearby opponents, and stay with the team rather than chasing a low-value second fight.

Using Leer for Entry and Retakes

Leer is most effective when it supports a coordinated peek. If you throw the eye and wait too long, enemies can destroy it or simply turn away until its effect ends. If you swing too early, you may enter before the eye has affected the angle. Coordinate the timing with teammates where possible: tell them which lane you are pressuring and when you intend to peek.

Think about where the eye appears and what opponents can do about it. A Leer placed where defenders can shoot it from safety may draw their attention and reveal their position, but it may not blind anyone for long. An eye that pressures several sightlines can force awkward choices, though enemies may still hold other angles or use utility.

On a retake, Leer can help your team challenge a planted-site position, but avoid throwing it automatically into the same spot every round. Change the timing or placement, and communicate before pushing so teammates can use the brief opening. Remember that an eye is not a smoke: it does not block bullets or physically prevent an opponent from firing.

Choosing Devour, Dismiss, and Empress

After an elimination, make a quick decision based on the threats, your health, and your position. Devour is attractive when you are injured and can safely remain close to the orb. Dismiss is usually better when another enemy has line of sight, when you need to cross an exposed gap, or when staying would let opponents trade you. If you are already safe and healthy, you may not need to spend the orb immediately.

Empress is strongest when you can use its empowered state to take meaningful fights rather than activate it after the round is effectively lost. A good moment may be an organized site hit or a retake where opponents are likely to be challenged in sequence. Avoid assuming the ultimate makes you invulnerable or guarantees kills: positioning, crosshair placement, enemy utility, and team support still matter.

Reyna’s abilities are tied to eliminations, so using her does not excuse ignoring the objective. Planting, defusing, holding a post-plant angle, and trading for a teammate can be more valuable than searching for another solo duel.

Teamwork, Weaknesses, and Alternatives

Reyna is a self-sufficient pick, but she does not provide the same team utility as an agent who can smoke sightlines, gather information, or reliably move teammates into space. Her Leer can pressure vision, but it is destructible and does not replace coordinated utility. Tell teammates when you are about to peek, and let them support you with their own abilities rather than expecting Reyna to clear every angle alone.

Her main weakness is that much of her kit has little impact before she earns a kill. In a match where opponents trade effectively, deny isolated fights, or punish aggressive peeks, Reyna may struggle to generate value. If your team needs smokes, scouting, or reliable entry movement, consider an agent whose abilities provide those tools even without an elimination. Choose based on the team’s needs and your comfort, not on the idea that one duelist is always best.

Another misconception is that Reyna is only useful to players with exceptional aim. Good aim helps, but disciplined peeking, smart use of cover, communication, and choosing the correct post-kill ability all improve consistency. At the same time, no ability choice can guarantee a win: the opponent can trade, break Leer, or anticipate your position.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should Reyna use Devour or Dismiss after a kill?
Use Devour when healing is valuable and you are relatively safe. Use Dismiss when an opponent can punish your position or you need to escape an exposed angle.

Does Reyna’s Leer blind enemies completely?
Leer nearsights enemies who look at it; it does not remove their ability to shoot, and opponents can destroy it. Treat it as pressure on vision rather than a guaranteed free kill.

Can Reyna heal without getting a kill?
Her Devour requires a Soul Orb, which Reyna obtains from an elimination. She cannot use it as a general-purpose heal whenever she takes damage.

Is Reyna good for beginners?
Her basic plan is easy to understand, but getting consistent value depends heavily on winning duels and judging when to disengage. Beginners can learn useful fundamentals with her, while also practicing crosshair placement and team communication.

Should Reyna always be the first player onto a site?
No. She can take space with Leer and a planned peek, but an unsupported rush can leave her isolated. Coordinate entry with teammates and prioritize the objective over chasing kills.
