Bokeh Game Studio is an independent video game developer founded in 2020 by Keiichiro Toyama, best known as the creator of Silent Hill and Gravity Rush. As of now, the studio has announced one game, a horror-action title called Slitterhead, which is set for release in November 2024. This article covers the studio’s background, its announced projects, and what players can expect from its first title.

Formula

The calculator above works out your average pace and speed for a run, ride, or walk. You enter your finish time in minutes and the distance in kilometers. The tool then divides the time by the distance to get your pace in minutes per kilometer, and it also converts that into an average speed in kilometers per hour.

In symbols:

  • pace (min/km) = total time (min) ÷ distance (km)
  • speed (km/h) = distance (km) ÷ (total time (min) ÷ 60)

Where total time is measured in minutes, distance in kilometers, pace in minutes per kilometer, and speed in kilometers per hour.

Worked Example

Using the default values from the calculator: you finish a 10 km run in 50 minutes.

  1. Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
  2. Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h

So your average pace is 5 minutes per kilometer, and your average speed is 12 kilometers per hour.

When to Use This Calculator

Use this tool whenever you want to know your average pace for a training run, compare two runs of different distances, or convert a pace into a speed for a treadmill or cycling workout. It is also handy for planning: if you know your target pace, you can estimate your finish time for a race.

For example, if you plan to run a 5 km parkrun and want to finish in 25 minutes, your pace would be 5 min/km. If you run a half marathon (21.1 km) in 1 hour 45 minutes (105 minutes), your pace is about 4:58 per kilometer.

How to Read the Result

The first output, average pace, is the most common metric for runners. A lower pace number means faster running—5 min/km is faster than 6 min/km. The second output, average speed, is more familiar to cyclists or walkers. A speed of 12 km/h is roughly a 5-minute kilometer, which is a brisk running pace for most people.

Remember that this gives you the average over the whole distance. If you run hills or start fast and fade, your actual pace at any given moment will vary. The average is still useful for tracking progress over time.

Common Mistakes and Unit Mix-Ups

  • Using hours instead of minutes: If you enter 1.5 hours as 1.5 minutes, your pace will be wildly off. Convert hours to minutes first (1.5 hours = 90 minutes).
  • Mixing miles and kilometers: The calculator expects kilometers. If your distance is in miles, multiply by 1.60934 to get kilometers first. For example, 5 miles ≈ 8.05 km.
  • Rounding too early: If you round the pace to 5.0 and then compute speed from that rounded number, you may get a slightly different speed than the calculator shows. Keep full precision until the final step.
  • Forgetting that pace is per kilometer: A pace of 5 min/km means 5 minutes for each kilometer, not 5 minutes for the whole run.

Limitations of the Formula

This formula assumes a constant speed over the entire distance. It does not account for stops, elevation changes, or varying effort. For a hilly course, your average pace will be slower than your flat-course pace even if you run the same effort. The formula also does not factor in age, gender, or fitness level—it is purely mathematical.

For treadmill users, the speed reading on the machine is usually in km/h or mph, so you can compare directly. For outdoor runs, GPS watches give you pace in real time, but this calculator gives you the overall average after the fact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 5 min/km pace good?

A 5 min/km pace corresponds to a 50-minute 10 km run, which is a solid recreational time for most adult runners. It is faster than the average jogger but slower than competitive club runners. “Good depends on your age, experience, and goals—what matters is improvement over your own baseline.

How do I convert my pace to mph?

First convert your pace to minutes per mile (multiply min/km by 1.60934), then divide 60 by that number. For example, a 5 min/km pace is about 8:03 per mile, so 60 ÷ 8.05 = 7.46 mph.

What is a good walking pace?

A brisk walking pace is typically 6.4 to 7.2 km/h (about 15 minutes per mile or 9-10 minutes per km). This calculator works for walking too—just enter your time and distance, and you will get your average walking pace.

Why does my GPS watch show a different pace?

GPS watches calculate pace based on your actual movement path, which includes turns, elevation, and GPS drift. They also show instantaneous pace, which fluctuates. The calculator gives a simple average over the total distance, so small differences are normal.

Can I use this for cycling?

Yes. Cyclists often use speed in km/h rather than pace. Enter your ride time and distance, and the speed output will be your average cycling speed. The pace output is less common for cycling but still mathematically valid.
