Dual Fusion Pack Chase Cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket

Card No. 06·6373 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

Each Dual Fusion pack in Pokémon TCG Pocket contains one of two chase cards: the Gold Crown Pikachu ex (in the Pikachu pack) or the Gold Crown Charizard ex (in the Charizard pack). You get these only by opening the specific pack and pulling the rare gold card from its secret slot.

What Are Dual Fusion Packs?

Dual Fusion is the second expansion in Pokémon TCG Pocket, released in January 2025. Unlike the first set (Genetic Apex), which had three pack variants, Dual Fusion has only two: the Pikachu pack and the Charizard pack. Each pack contains five cards, and the contents are determined by which pack you choose to open.

The set introduces new Pokémon ex, Trainer cards, and a special rarity tier called “Gold Crown” cards. These are the rarest cards in the game, with an estimated pull rate of around 0.01% per pack. The Gold Crown cards are not part of the regular card pool; they appear only in the secret slot that normally holds a basic energy or a common card.

The Two Chase Cards

The chase cards in Dual Fusion are the Gold Crown versions of Pikachu ex and Charizard ex. Here’s what you need to know about each:

  • Gold Crown Pikachu ex – Found only in the Pikachu pack. It has the same stats and moves as the regular Pikachu ex (120 HP, Thunderbolt attack) but features a full gold foil treatment with a unique holo pattern.
  • Gold Crown Charizard ex – Found only in the Charizard pack. It matches the regular Charizard ex (180 HP, Crimson Storm attack) but is entirely gold, with a different art style that makes it stand out from the standard version.

Both cards are purely cosmetic variants. They have no gameplay advantage over their non-gold counterparts. Their value lies in rarity and collection appeal.

How to Pull a Chase Card

To get a Gold Crown card, you must open the corresponding pack. There is no way to craft or trade for these cards (trading was not available at launch). Here’s the step-by-step process:

  1. Open the Pokémon TCG Pocket app and go to the Booster Pack screen.
  2. Select either the Pikachu or Charizard pack from the Dual Fusion section.
  3. Spend Pack Points or use a free pack (you get one free pack every 12 hours).
  4. Open the pack and flip through the cards. The Gold Crown card, if present, appears in the final slot.

Because the pull rate is extremely low, most players will need to open hundreds of packs to see one. The game does not have a pity system, so there is no guaranteed number of packs that will give you a Gold Crown card.

Which Pack Should You Choose?

Your choice of pack depends on which chase card you want. If you prefer Pikachu, open the Pikachu pack. If you prefer Charizard, open the Charizard pack. There is no strategic advantage to one over the other—the odds are identical.

However, if you are also hunting for other cards in the set, consider the full contents of each pack. The Pikachu pack contains more Electric-type Pokémon (like Magneton and Electabuzz), while the Charizard pack has more Fire-type Pokémon (like Ninetales and Moltres). If you are building a specific deck, you might want to focus on the pack that contains the other cards you need.

Common Misconceptions

One common mistake is thinking that the Gold Crown card replaces the rare slot (the fourth card). It does not—it replaces the final energy/common slot. So you still get your regular rare card in the same pack, which slightly improves your odds of getting a good card overall.

Another misconception is that the Gold Crown card is the same as the “Immersive” card from Genetic Apex. Immersive cards have a special 3D animation when you view them. Gold Crown cards do not have that feature—they are static gold foil cards. The animation is reserved for the three Immersive cards in Genetic Apex (Mewtwo, Charizard, and Pikachu).

Cost and Value

Opening packs costs Pack Points, which you earn by completing battles or by spending real money. The game gives you one free pack every 12 hours, so you can open about two packs per day without paying. If you want to speed up the process, you can buy Pack Points with Poké Gold (the premium currency).

The monetary cost of obtaining a Gold Crown card is high. With a 0.01% drop rate, you would expect to open about 10,000 packs to get one. At the standard rate of roughly $1 per pack (when buying in bulk), that’s around $10,000 for a single Gold Crown card. This is why they are considered the ultimate collector’s item in the game.

Alternatives to the Gold Crown

If you want a rare card but don’t want to spend thousands, consider the Rainbow Rare versions of the same Pokémon. These have a rainbow foil background and are much more common (around 0.5% pull rate). They are still rare and collectible but far more attainable.

Another alternative is the full-art versions of Pikachu ex and Charizard ex, which feature unique illustrations. These are also easier to pull than the Gold Crown cards and are often more visually appealing to players.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Gold Crown card from any pack? No, each Gold Crown card is exclusive to its pack. Gold Crown Pikachu ex only appears in the Pikachu pack, and Gold Crown Charizard ex only appears in the Charizard pack.

Do Gold Crown cards have better stats? No, they have the exact same stats and moves as the regular ex versions. The only difference is the gold foil treatment.

Can I trade for a Gold Crown card? Trading is not available in Pokémon TCG Pocket at launch. The developers have said trading will be added in a future update, but it’s unclear if Gold Crown cards will be tradable.

Is there a way to increase my chances? No, the drop rate is fixed. There are no items or boosters that increase the odds of pulling a Gold Crown card.

How many packs do I need to open to get one? Statistically, you would need about 10,000 packs to have a 63% chance of getting at least one Gold Crown card. There is no guarantee.
