This guide lists every fish species found in the Boreal Pines region of Fisch, what bait and rod setup works best for each, and the exact conditions that trigger rare spawns. You’ll get a complete bestiary table, time-of-day and weather effects, and practical farming routes so you can fill your collection log efficiently.

Formula

The calculator estimates how many fish you will catch in a given session:

Total catches = Time (hours) × Catch rate (fish per hour)

  • t – time spent fishing, in hours (default 2)
  • r – your average catch rate, in fish per hour (default 15)
  • total – estimated number of fish caught in that time
  • per_min – your catch rate expressed per minute, useful for comparing rod speeds

This is a simple linear model – double the time, double the catches. It assumes you are actively reeling in fish the whole session and not idling.

Worked Example

Using the defaults: you fish for 2 hours at a rate of 15 fish per hour.

  1. Total catches = 2 × 15 = 30 fish
  2. Per minute rate = 15 ÷ 60 = 0.25 fish/min

So in a 2-hour session you would expect about 30 catches, or one fish every 4 minutes on average.

Boreal Pines Overview

Boreal Pines is a cold-water region in Fisch, introduced as part of the winter-themed update. The area features icy lakes, snow-covered banks, and a mix of common and rare species that rotate with in-game time and weather. Unlike warmer zones, most fish here prefer colder bait and deeper casts. The bestiary contains 24 species total, ranging from tiny baitfish to a legendary glacier shark.

The region is divided into three main fishing spots: the North Lake, the South River, and the Frozen Falls. Each spot has its own species pool, though some fish overlap. You unlock Boreal Pines by reaching level 30 and purchasing the travel permit from the dock master in Moosewood.

Complete Fish List and Baits

Here is the full bestiary for Boreal Pines, organized by rarity. The bait column shows what works best; using the wrong bait drastically reduces your catch rate.

    • Snow Perch – Minnow bait, day only
    • Frost Carp – Corn bait, day or night

  • Uncommon (30%)
    • Boreal Bass – Minnow bait, day, clear weather
    • Winter Pike – Fish head bait, night, any weather

    • Yeti Crab – Squid bait, day, snowing, only at South River
    • Frozen Kingfish – Fish head bait, night, snowing, only at North Lake
  • Mythic (0.5%)

Time and Weather Mechanics

Boreal Pines uses a 24-minute day/night cycle. Day lasts from 6:00 to 18:00 in-game, night from 18:00 to 6:00. Weather changes every 10 minutes and can be clear, snowing, or blizzard. Blizzard conditions are the rarest and boost the spawn rate of mythic fish by 2×, but also make reeling harder (the bar shrinks by 20%).

To check the current time and weather, open your map – it shows both in the corner. Some fish only appear during specific combinations, so if you are hunting a legendary, you may need to wait several cycles. The game does not show a forecast, so you simply have to keep checking.

Recommended Rods and Gear

For Boreal Pines, the best rod is the Glacier Rod, obtained by completing the Boreal Pines questline. It has 65% luck, 5.0 lure speed, and 45% resilience – ideal for the strong fish here. If you haven’t unlocked it yet, the Mythic Rod or Steady Rod work well for common and uncommon fish.

Use a depth lure to reach the deeper pools where rare fish hide. For bait, always match the fish you want – carrying 50 of each bait type is a good baseline. The Magnet bobber helps catch scrap items that sell for extra money, while the Luck bobber (+15% luck) is better for rare hunting.

Common Mistakes and Misconceptions

One widespread myth is that the Glacier Shark only spawns during a blizzard. In reality, it spawns during any snowing weather at night – blizzard just increases the chance. Another mistake is using the same bait for all spots. The Frozen Falls has a different pool than the North Lake, so check the fish list above before switching locations.

Many players also ignore the cast distance. Rare and legendary fish require a cast of at least 50 meters. If you are casting short, you will only catch commons. Use a rod with high casting range or upgrade your reel to increase distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the rarest fish in Boreal Pines?

The Glacier Shark is the rarest, with a 0.5% base spawn rate. It only appears at North Lake, at night, during snowing weather. Using a shark head bait and casting to max distance gives you the best chance.

How long does it take to catch all fish in Boreal Pines?

With a decent rod and correct bait, expect 10-15 hours of active fishing. The bottleneck is usually the two mythic fish, which may take several in-game days to appear. Using the calculator above, at 15 fish/hour, you’ll catch ~150-225 fish in that time – enough to see most rares.

Does the Boreal Pines bestiary count toward the global collection?

Yes, every fish caught here adds to your global collection log. Completing the Boreal Pines set gives a title and a bobber cosmetic, but it is not required for the main story.

Can I catch Boreal Pines fish in other regions?

No, these fish are exclusive to Boreal Pines. However, some common fish like the Ice Minnow also appear in the nearby Snowcap Island area, but the rare and legendary ones are region-locked.

What is the best time to farm the Aurora Trout?

The Aurora Trout spawns only at night, during clear weather, at the Frozen Falls. Use insect bait and cast to the waterfall pool. It has a 2.5% rate, so you may need several nights to catch one.

Why am I only catching Ice Minnows?

This usually means you are using worm bait, which is the most common bait and attracts only the most common fish. Switch to a specific bait for the fish you want, and make sure you are casting far enough. If you’re at the South River, try moving to the North Lake for a different pool.
