Google Daily Hub and Google Now are two different notification and information systems on Pixel phones, but the Pixel 10 does not exist yet. This article clarifies what each system is, how they compare, and what to expect on future Pixel devices.
Formula
The calculator above computes your average running pace and speed from a finish time and distance. The pace formula is:
Pace = Total Time (minutes) ÷ Distance (km)
Speed = Distance (km) ÷ (Total Time (minutes) ÷ 60)
Variables: t = finish time in minutes, d = distance in kilometers. Pace is shown in minutes per kilometer, speed in kilometers per hour.
Worked Example
Using the default values: t = 50 minutes, d = 10 km.
Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h
The calculator returns a pace of 5.00 min/km and speed of 12.00 km/h.
What Is Google Daily Hub?
Google Daily Hub is a feature that appears on the lock screen of some Android tablets and Pixel tablets, showing a curated set of information like calendar events, weather, reminders, and news headlines. It is designed to work when the device is docked or charging, turning the screen into a smart display. The Daily Hub is not a separate app but a lock-screen mode that pulls data from your Google account and displays it at a glance.
What Is Google Now?
Google Now was a predictive assistant feature introduced in 2012 with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It showed cards on the home screen or in a dedicated panel, offering weather, traffic, sports scores, and other information based on your location, search history, and habits. Google Now was replaced by the Google Assistant’s “Feedâ€ in 2016, which later became the “Discoverâ€ tab in the Google app. No current Pixel phone runs Google Now as it existed originally.
How They Compare on Pixel Phones
On a Pixel phone, the Daily Hub is not available—it is exclusive to Pixel tablets. Google Now is also not present on any current Pixel phone; instead, you get the Discover feed by swiping right on the home screen. The Discover feed shows articles and updates based on your interests, but it does not show calendar or reminder cards like the Daily Hub does. In short, the two systems target different devices and serve different purposes.
What About the Pixel 10?
As of this writing, Google has not announced a Pixel 10. The Pixel 9 series is the latest, and rumors suggest a Pixel 10 might arrive in 2025, but nothing is official. If a Pixel 10 is released, it will likely run the same Android version as other Pixel phones, which includes the Discover feed but not the Daily Hub. The Daily Hub could theoretically come to phones in the future, but Google has not indicated any such plan.
Which One Should You Use?
You cannot choose between them on a Pixel phone because neither is available there. If you own a Pixel tablet, the Daily Hub is a useful lock-screen mode for checking your day at a glance. For phone users, the closest alternative is the Discover feed, which you can customize by tapping the three-dot menu in the Google app and selecting “Interests.
Common Misconceptions
- Daily Hub is an app: It is not; it is a lock-screen setting found under Settings > Display > Daily Hub on Pixel tablets.
- Google Now still exists: It does not; it was retired in 2016.
- Pixel 10 will have Daily Hub: There is no evidence for this, and the feature is currently tablet-only.
