Customize Galaxy A57 After One UI Update

Card No. 06·31396 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

After updating your Galaxy A57 to the latest One UI version, you get access to new customization options that let you tailor the look, feel, and behavior of your phone. This guide walks you through the most useful settings—from changing the color palette and icon shapes to tweaking the lock screen and notification panel. You don’t need any special tools; just your phone and a few minutes to explore the settings.

What You’ll Need

  • Galaxy A57 with the One UI update installed (check in Settings > About Phone > Software Information)
  • Sufficient battery (above 20%) or a charger
  • A stable Wi-Fi connection if you plan to download new themes or icon packs

Step-by-Step

  1. Open Settings. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the gear icon, or find the Settings app in your app drawer.
  2. Customize the color palette. Go to Wallpaper and style > Color palette. Choose a preset palette or tap Custom to pick your own colors. The palette automatically applies to icons, menus, and system apps.
  3. Change icon shapes. In the same Wallpaper and style menu, tap Icon shape and select from options like Circle, Squircle, Rounded Square, or Drop. This changes the shape of all app icons.
  4. Set a new wallpaper. Tap Wallpaper in the Wallpaper and style menu. Choose from the built-in gallery, or select My photos to use your own image. You can apply it to the Home screen, Lock screen, or both.
  5. Adjust the lock screen. Go to Lock screen in Settings. Here you can change the clock style, add a shortcut to the camera or other apps, and toggle notifications on or off. Tap Clock style to pick a different font and layout.
  6. Enable Always On Display (AOD). In Lock screen settings, tap Always On Display. Choose when to show it (always, on tap, or on schedule) and select a clock style or image.
  7. Customize the notification panel. Swipe down twice to open the full quick settings panel. Tap the pencil icon to edit which toggles appear. You can also adjust notification behavior in Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings.
  8. Change the font and display size. Go to Settings > Display > Font size and style. Adjust the slider for text size, and tap Font style to download or select a different font.
  9. Set up Edge panels. If you want quick access to apps and tools, go to Settings > Display > Edge panels and enable it. You can choose which panels to show (apps, contacts, clipboard, etc.) and customize the handle position.
  10. Use Themes for a complete makeover. Open the Galaxy Themes app (or find it in Settings > Wallpaper and style). Browse free themes that change the wallpaper, icons, and system UI colors. Tap Apply to use one.
  11. Customize the Home screen grid. Long-press on an empty area of the Home screen, tap Settings (or the gear icon), then choose Home screen grid. Pick a 4×4, 4×5, or 5×5 layout to fit more apps.
  12. Adjust the navigation bar. Go to Settings > Display > Navigation bar. You can choose between buttons (with different button layouts) or swipe gestures. If using buttons, you can reorder them and change the color.
  13. Enable dark mode and schedule it. In Settings > Display, toggle Dark mode on. Tap Dark mode settings to schedule it to turn on at sunset or at a custom time.
  14. Fine-tune the status bar. Go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings. Here you can choose to show or hide the battery percentage, and control whether the status bar shows notification icons.
  15. Set up modes and routines. In Settings > Modes and routines, you can create automations. For example, set a routine to switch to dark mode and silent when you open a certain app, or when you arrive home.

Common Mistakes

  • Applying a theme that hides the color palette. Some themes override your custom palette. If your colors don’t change, switch back to the default theme or choose a theme that doesn’t lock the palette.
  • Changing the icon shape but not seeing it. Icon shape only applies to supported launchers and some third-party apps may not follow the shape. If you use a custom launcher, the shape might not apply.
  • Forgetting to save your changes. Some settings (like wallpaper) require you to tap Apply or Done after selecting. If you exit without saving, the change won’t stick.
  • Overloading the Home screen with widgets. Adding too many widgets can slow down the phone and make it look cluttered. Keep only the ones you use frequently.
  • Setting a schedule for dark mode that conflicts with your routine. If you have both a scheduled dark mode and a routine that changes it, they can fight. Set one or the other.

Tips

  • Use the color palette to match your wallpaper. Pick a palette that complements your wallpaper for a cohesive look.
  • Create a routine for bedtime. A routine can automatically turn on dark mode, enable Do Not Disturb, and switch to grayscale to reduce screen time.
  • Back up your layout. If you spend time customizing, go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Samsung Cloud and back up your Home screen layout and settings.
  • Try the “Accent colorâ€ option in the palette. This lets you pick a single accent color for highlights, which can look modern and minimal.
  • Use the “Touch and holdâ€ delay. In Accessibility > Interaction and dexterity, you can adjust the touch and hold delay to make long-press actions easier.

Troubleshooting

  • Changes don’t apply after restart. Some themes or icon packs may revert after a reboot. Re-apply the theme or icon pack, and check if it’s a known issue with that theme.
  • Color palette is grayed out. This happens when a third-party theme is active. Switch back to the default theme in Galaxy Themes, then try again.
  • Edge panels not working. Go to Settings > Display > Edge panels and make sure it’s enabled. Also check that the edge handle is not hidden (you can adjust its position and size).
  • Battery drains faster after customization. Always On Display, live wallpapers, and bright themes can increase battery usage. Reduce AOD to tap-to-show, use a static wallpaper, and lower screen brightness.
  • Can’t find a setting mentioned here. One UI updates may change menu names slightly. Use the search bar at the top of Settings to find the exact option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will customizing void my warranty?

No. All the customization options described here are built into One UI and do not require rooting or modifying the system. Your warranty remains intact.

Can I revert to the default look after customization?

Yes. You can reset most settings individually or go to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset all settings to revert to default system settings (this won’t delete your data).

Why do some apps not follow the icon shape?

Some third-party apps use their own icon masks and may not support the system icon shape. This is normal and depends on the app developer.

How do I change the clock on the lock screen to a different style?

Go to Settings > Lock screen > Clock style. You can choose from several styles and customize the color and size.

Can I use my own photos for Always On Display?

Yes. In Always On Display settings, choose Image and select a photo from your gallery. You can also adjust the clock position.

Will a theme change the notification panel colors?

Yes, themes can change the colors of the notification panel and quick settings. If you prefer the default look, stick with the default theme and only change the color palette.
