How to Edit a Disney Profile

Card No. 06·49689 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

Editing your Disney profile lets you personalize your experience across Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+—changing your avatar, display name, and content rating limits. You can also manage autoplay settings and language preferences. To get started, you’ll need access to the account holder’s login credentials and a web browser or the Disney+ app.

What You’ll Need

  • A Disney+ account (the profile you want to edit must be part of this account)
  • Login credentials for the account (email and password) or an active session on your device
  • A web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) or the Disney+ app on a supported device (smart TV, phone, tablet, game console)

Step-by-Step

  1. Sign in to your account – Go to disneyplus.com and log in with the account email and password. If you’re already signed in on a device, skip to the next step.
  2. Go to your profile – On the Disney+ home screen, click on your profile icon (usually a circle with your avatar) in the top-right corner. This opens a drop-down menu.
  3. Select “Edit Profiles” – In the drop-down menu, click or tap Edit Profiles. This takes you to a screen showing all profiles on the account.
  4. Choose the profile to edit – Click on the profile you want to modify. If you’re editing a profile that is not the one you’re currently using, you can select it from this list.
  5. Change the profile name – In the edit screen, you’ll see a text field for the profile name. Click into it and type the new name. Keep it under 15 characters (Disney’s limit).
  6. Change the avatar – Below the name field, you’ll see a grid of avatars (characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, etc.). Click on a new avatar to select it. It will highlight to show it’s chosen.
  7. Adjust content rating (if you’re a parent/guardian) – If you’re editing a Kids Profile, you’ll see a Content Rating section. Select the maximum rating allowed (e.g., TV-G, TV-PG, etc.). For regular profiles, you can also set a PIN to lock a profile (see Tips).
  8. Set autoplay preferences (optional) – On the same edit screen, you can toggle Autoplay next episode on or off. This controls whether the next episode starts automatically after the current one ends.
  9. Save your changes – After making your edits, click the Save button (usually at the bottom of the screen). Your changes take effect immediately.
  10. Verify the change – Return to the home screen and click on your profile icon. The updated name and avatar should appear.

Common Mistakes

  • Not saving your changes – Forgetting to click Save is the most common error. If you navigate away without saving, all edits are lost.
  • Editing the wrong profile – If you have multiple profiles, double-check you’re editing the intended one. The profile name is shown at the top of the edit screen.
  • Using a name that’s too long – Disney+ limits profile names to 15 characters. If you exceed this, the system will not accept it.
  • Ignoring the Kids Profile restrictions – Kids Profiles have a fixed content rating (TV-G or TV-PG) and cannot be changed to an unrestricted profile. You must delete the Kids Profile and create a new one if you want a standard profile.
  • Expecting changes to sync immediately across all devices – While changes usually appear instantly, on some older devices you may need to sign out and sign back in to see the new avatar/name.

Tips

  • Use a profile PIN – For adult profiles, you can set a PIN (Profile Lock) to prevent children from accessing it. Go to Edit Profiles → select the profile → toggle Profile Lock and enter a 4-digit PIN.
  • Customize kids’ profiles – For Kids Profiles, you can also set a Content Rating (TV-G or TV-PG) and choose to allow or block specific titles. This is done in the same edit screen.
  • Change language preferences – Under Edit Profiles, you’ll also find Language settings. You can set the default audio and subtitle language for that profile.
  • Use the mobile app – The steps are nearly identical on the Disney+ mobile app (iOS/Android). Tap the profile icon, then Edit Profiles.
  • Keep your account secure – If you’re editing a profile on a shared device, remember to sign out when you’re done, especially if you’ve set a PIN.

Troubleshooting

  • Can’t find the Edit Profiles option – Make sure you’re on the Disney+ home screen, not inside a movie or show. If you’re in a title, press the back button or home icon first.
  • Changes don’t appear on another device – Force-close the app or refresh the browser. If that doesn’t work, sign out and sign back in on that device.
  • You forgot your password – Use the “Forgot Password” link on the login screen. You’ll receive an email to reset it. You need access to the account email.
  • Profile lock PIN not working – If you forget your PIN, you’ll need to reset your account password. After resetting, the PIN is cleared and you can set a new one.
  • Editing a profile on a TV or console – Some smart TVs and game consoles have a slightly different interface. Look for the profile icon in the top-right, then select Edit Profiles. If you can’t find it, try using a web browser on your phone or computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I edit a profile without the account password?

No, you must be signed in to the account. If you don’t have the password, ask the account owner to log in for you.

How many profiles can I have on Disney+?

You can have up to 7 profiles per account. This includes Kids Profiles.

Can I change a Kids Profile to a regular profile?

No, you cannot change the profile type. You must delete the Kids Profile and create a new regular profile.

Why can’t I change my profile name to something with spaces?

Will my watch history be affected if I change my profile name or avatar?

No, your watch history, continue watching, and recommendations are tied to the profile ID, not the name or avatar. They will remain intact.

Can I edit a profile on the Hulu or ESPN+ apps?

No, profile editing is done through Disney+. However, changes to your Disney+ profile will apply to Hulu and ESPN+ if you have a bundle, but you manage them via Disney+.
