Palworld 1.0 Raid Boss Teams and Battle Strategy

Card No. 06·29027 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

In Palworld 1.0, the strongest raid teams pair a durable player-side frontline with a rotating group of Pals chosen to exploit each boss’s elemental weakness. There is no single guaranteed team for every raid: boss attacks, base layout, Pal passives, and your gear all matter, so use the matchups below as practical starting points rather than a promise of an easy win.

What “every raid boss” means in version 1.0

Palworld’s raid encounters are summoned at a Summoning Altar, usually built at a base. You use a boss’s slab at the altar to call the encounter; the raid then attacks the base and its defenders. The key distinction is that raid bosses are not ordinary wild Pals with a bigger health bar. They are built for a group fight, can deal heavy area damage, and can overwhelm a base that is not prepared.

Version 1.0’s raid roster includes Bellanoir, Bellanoir Libero, and Blazamut Ryu, with stronger variants of the first two available through their respective slab recipes. Exact availability and recipe details can depend on what you have unlocked and gathered. Check the in-game altar and Technology menus for the current requirements rather than assuming a slab is obtainable early in a playthrough.

Raid defenses are not only about elemental type. Your Pals need enough health and damage to stay in the fight, while your character can contribute sustained ranged damage. A carefully bred, condensed team can outperform a list of theoretically perfect species that are under-levelled or poorly equipped.

Recommended teams by raid boss

Use the following as team-building frameworks. Keep a strong player-side combat Pal available, then fill the rest of the active team with damage dealers or support that fit your build. The precise number of Pals you can deploy and the value of any partner skill depend on your character progression and equipment.

  • Bellanoir: Favor Dragon damage against this Dark-type boss. Jetragon is a strong candidate if you have access to it; other well-raised Dragon attackers can fill the role. Avoid relying on a team dominated by Dark Pals, since Dark attacks are a poor matchup here.
  • Bellanoir Libero: Treat this as a tougher version of the same Dark-focused encounter and keep Dragon attackers as the core. Bring a reserve plan: a boss that survives long enough to cycle attacks can punish a team built only for an opening burst. Strong, condensed Dragon Pals and a player using reliable ranged damage are more dependable than a roster selected by name alone.
  • Blazamut Ryu: This encounter changes the matchup during the fight. Use Water damage against its Fire phase and Ice damage when it changes to Dragon. Jormuntide is a natural Water attacker; strong Ice options such as Frostallion can help cover the Dragon phase. Do not put every slot into one element and expect it to work equally well throughout.

Those recommendations are about the boss’s type and phase, not a claim that each named Pal is mandatory. If you lack a late-game legendary, use the strongest suitable Pal you can breed, level, and equip. A well-prepared alternative is better than an underdeveloped name-brand pick.

How to build a reliable raid roster

Raid fights reward preparation more than a last-minute swap. Make a dedicated combat party and consider keeping a separate group of base defenders. Pals assigned to work can be unavailable or poorly suited to a sudden fight, and a busy base may have inconvenient pathing or structures that interfere with combat.

  1. Match attack type to the boss. Build around Dragon damage for the Bellanoir encounters and Water/Ice coverage for Blazamut Ryu’s changing phases.
  2. Check the whole Pal, not just its element. Level, species stats, passive skills, soul upgrades, and condensation affect performance. Partner skills can also change how a Pal contributes, so read the in-game description.
  3. Balance damage and survival. A glass-cannon team can lose members before dealing enough damage. Choose Pals with useful durability and bring healing items and spare equipment for your character.
  4. Give the player a role. Use a weapon suited to your progression and keep firing when safe. Your own damage matters; do not assume the Pals will finish the raid without help.
  5. Prepare the arena. Summon at a base intended for fighting, not beside valuable production buildings. Clear space for movement and avoid placing the altar where defenders become trapped.

Element matchups and changing phases

Palworld’s elemental chart is a useful guide, but a type advantage is not a substitute for levels, attack power, or survival. In broad terms, Dragon attacks are effective against Dark; Water is effective against Fire; and Ice is effective against Dragon. Conversely, sending a team into a favorable matchup with weak attacks or poor stats can still produce a loss.

Blazamut Ryu is the matchup that most clearly calls for flexibility. Its elemental changes mean a single-element team can spend part of the battle attacking into a less favorable defense. Carrying Water and Ice damage gives you coverage across the encounter. Swap or deploy the appropriate Pal when the phase changes, and watch the boss rather than continuing with the first attack plan automatically.

Do not confuse a Pal’s element with every move it can use: a Pal may learn attacks of other elements. Check its active moves before the fight. If the move list does not deliver the damage type you expect, the species name alone will not fix that.

Common reasons raid attempts fail

  • Summoning before the base is ready: A raid can damage structures and scatter defenders. Use a dedicated battle area and avoid risking essential crafting or storage buildings.
  • Bringing workers instead of fighters: Base assignments do not automatically make a Pal a good combat choice. Review its level, moves, and combat traits.
  • Ignoring phase changes: This is especially costly against Blazamut Ryu. Switch elemental coverage when the boss changes form.
  • Underestimating survival: A favorable type matchup does not prevent heavy attacks from knocking out a fragile team. Improve levels and survivability before repeating the same attempt.
  • Expecting one universal “best” team: A roster that excels against Bellanoir may be poorly suited to Blazamut Ryu. Build around the actual encounter.

If a run fails, note when your Pals are being knocked out and whether the boss is taking meaningful damage. Replace one weak link at a time: improve the relevant element, add durability, or adjust the phase response. That makes it easier to identify the real problem than changing the entire roster at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Pal for Bellanoir in Palworld 1.0?
Dragon attackers are the key matchup because Bellanoir is Dark-type. Jetragon can be a strong option, but a well-developed Dragon Pal you already own may be more effective than an under-levelled late-game pick.

What team beats Blazamut Ryu?
Build around Water damage for its Fire phase and Ice damage for its Dragon phase. Jormuntide and Frostallion are examples of suitable specialists, but levels, moves, and combat preparation still determine how well they perform.

Can one team beat every raid boss?
A strong general-purpose roster may handle multiple encounters, but it will not be equally optimized for all of them. The Bellanoir raids favor Dragon damage, while Blazamut Ryu calls for Water and Ice coverage.

Do I have to use legendary Pals?
No. Legendary Pals can be powerful, but they are not a requirement. A Pal with the right attack type, good levels, useful passives, and adequate preparation can be a practical substitute.

Can raid bosses destroy my base?
Raid encounters can put base structures at risk. Summon at a battle-ready base with open space, and avoid placing essential production or storage where the fight is likely to spill into it.

Why is my type-advantaged team still losing?
Element advantage is only one part of the fight. Check Pal levels, moves, passive skills, survivability, and whether you are responding to phase changes; also contribute damage with your character.
