Netflix Continue Watching List Gone? How to Fix It

Card No. 06·29168 · Updated · Standard formula, shown below

If your Netflix Continue Watching list has disappeared, first switch to the profile you normally use, refresh Netflix, and check the list on another device. If titles are still missing, confirm that they were not removed from your viewing activity; you can restore visibility by playing an episode or film again, but Netflix does not provide a separate restore button for a cleared title.

How Continue Watching works

Continue Watching is a personalized row that helps you return to films and series you started but have not finished. It is associated with a Netflix profile, so activity on one profile does not necessarily appear on another. A title may also stop appearing after you finish it, remove it from viewing activity, or Netflix no longer treats it as something you are in the middle of watching.

The row can look different across TVs, phones, web browsers, and app versions. Netflix may arrange rows differently or show fewer titles on a particular screen. That does not always mean your account history has been erased. Check the profile and, if possible, compare the Netflix home screen on a second device before changing account settings.

Try these fixes first

  1. Check the active profile. Open the profile menu and select the profile you used to watch the missing title. Also check that you have not accidentally switched to a Kids profile or another household member’s profile.
  2. Refresh Netflix. Return to the home screen, close and reopen the app, or reload the Netflix website. On a TV, fully exit the app; if the row remains missing, restart the device and open Netflix again.
  3. Look for the title elsewhere. Use Netflix search to see whether the programme is still available. Open its details page and check whether playback resumes near where you stopped. A row can be absent even when the title remains available in the service.
  4. Check another device. Sign in to the same account and profile on a phone or browser. If the row appears there but not on your TV, the issue is more likely the app display or device than the profile’s viewing activity.
  5. Play the title again. Start the episode or film and let it play briefly, then return to the home screen. This can make Netflix recognize it as a current viewing item again. Its position in the row may take a little time to update.

Check your viewing activity

If a specific show or film is missing everywhere, check the profile’s viewing activity in your Netflix account settings. The account page provides a history for each profile; the exact navigation can vary by device, so a web browser is often the clearest way to find account and profile settings. Look for the viewing activity option under the profile you actually used.

If the title is listed there, the history entry has not been removed. Try playing the title again and refreshing the app. If it is not listed, someone may have removed it from the profile’s viewing activity, or it may have been watched under a different profile. Netflix’s help information explains that removing a title from viewing activity also removes it from Continue Watching. There is no general undo control for that removal. Playing it again may create a new activity entry.

Keep in mind that viewing activity and Continue Watching are related but not identical. Activity is a record of what was watched; Continue Watching is a convenience row based on ongoing viewing. Seeing an item in one place does not guarantee that it must appear in the other.

When the whole row is missing

If the entire Continue Watching row has vanished, rather than just one title, start with profile and display checks. Confirm you are on the expected profile, then reload the home screen and test another device. A row may not be prominent if there is little unfinished viewing associated with that profile, or if the current home screen layout places it lower down.

Also check for a Netflix app update through your device’s usual app store or system settings. If updates are available, install them and reopen Netflix. On a device where the app continues to show an outdated or incomplete home screen, signing out and back in may refresh the session. Make sure you know how to sign in again before signing out, especially on a TV where entering account details can be inconvenient.

Clearing app data or reinstalling should be a later step, not the first one: it may remove local app settings and require you to sign in again. The exact options vary by device. If the problem affects one device only after the basic refresh and update steps, consult that device’s support instructions or Netflix Help rather than applying instructions meant for a different model.

Common causes and misconceptions

  • Wrong profile: Profiles have separate viewing histories, so a title watched on one profile may not show on another.
  • Removed activity: Hiding a title from viewing activity can remove it from Continue Watching too. This is different from simply closing the app.
  • Finished or stale viewing: A completed title may no longer belong in a row intended for unfinished viewing. Starting it again can bring it back into active viewing.
  • Different screen layout: A row missing on one device does not prove that your account history is gone. Check another screen and scroll through the home page.
  • Account access by someone else: If unfamiliar titles appear or activity changes unexpectedly, review who can use the profile and secure the account using Netflix’s account options. Do not share sign-in details unnecessarily.

A common misconception is that uninstalling Netflix or restarting a device will restore a title deliberately removed from viewing activity. Those steps can resolve a display or app problem, but they do not reconstruct deleted profile history. Conversely, one missing row is not by itself proof that the account was hacked or that all viewing data has been lost.

When to contact Netflix support

Contact Netflix through its official Help Center if the row is missing across devices, the correct profile is selected, the app is refreshed, and the title’s activity does not explain the problem. Give support the profile involved, the devices where you checked, and whether the issue affects one title or the entire row. Avoid sending your password or payment details in a public post or unsolicited message.

If you suspect someone else has used the account, review account access and follow Netflix’s current account-security guidance. If only one device is affected, include its model and whether Netflix works normally on another device; that helps distinguish a device-specific display issue from a profile issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I restore a Netflix title I removed from Continue Watching?
If you removed it through viewing activity, Netflix does not offer a separate undo button. Search for the title and play it again; it may return to Continue Watching as new viewing activity is recorded.

Why is Continue Watching missing on my TV but visible on my phone?
The TV app may need refreshing or updating, or its home-screen layout may differ. Reopen Netflix, restart the TV or streaming device, and check for an app update before changing profile history.

Does deleting a title from viewing activity delete it from my account?
No. It removes the viewing record from that profile and can remove the title from Continue Watching, but it does not delete the programme from Netflix’s catalogue or cancel your account.

Why did a show disappear even though I did not remove it?
You may have finished it, watched it on another profile, or be seeing a different home-screen layout. Check the correct profile and its viewing activity, then open and play the title again if it is available.

Can Netflix support recover my cleared viewing history?
Do not assume that cleared activity can be restored. Check Netflix Help for current account-specific options; support can help diagnose display or profile problems, but a removed history entry may not be recoverable.
